Following Trump's electoral victory, Newsom called for California lawmakers to convene a special session to safeguard the state's progressive policies ahead of the Republican's second term in the White House.

On Thursday, Newsom's office said he wanted lawmakers to give the California attorney general's office more funding to "pursue robust affirmative litigation against any unlawful actions by the incoming Trump Administration, as well as defend against federal lawsuits aimed at undermining California's laws and policies."

Newsom and lawmakers are ready to "Trump-proof" California's state laws, his office told the Associated Press.

In a Friday post on Truth Social, the president-elect called the Democrat "Governor Gavin Newscum." He accused Newsom of "trying to KILL" California and "using the term 'Trump-Proof' as a way of stopping all of the GREAT things that can be done to 'Make California Great Again.'"

Other governors and attorneys general from blue states are likewise preparing to counter Trump's proposals, including his plan to launch the biggest deportation program in the nation's history.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey said her state would "absolutely not" assist the Trump administration with mass deportations, while New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy spoke of fighting "to the death" against proposals that counter his state's values.

In New York, Governor Kathy Hochul has convened a task force to develop strategies to protect New Yorkers in key areas that "are most likely to face threats from the Trump administration," including immigration, reproductive rights and civil rights.

WHITE HAUS STAFF CHANT VP-VERY PRETTY FOR LOW IQ KAMALA ON 1ST VISIT SINCE ELECTION

White House staff chant ‘MVP’ for Kamala Harris on first visit since election

WASHINGTON — Hundreds of White House staffers greeted Vice President Kamala Harris with chants of “M-V-P” Tuesday as she returned to the executive complex for the first time since losing last week’s presidential election to Donald Trump.

The widely known acronym for “Most Valuable Player” was apparently repurposed by Democratic loyalists to pay tribute to the 60-year-old’s honorary title as “Madame Vice President.”

Harris lost all seven swing states to Trump, 78, as well as the national popular vote — after running a 107-day campaign that raised, and then blew through, more than $1 billion after President Biden stepped aside July 21 due to concern about his mental acuity.

UR investigates vandalism tied to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

On late Sunday night, “Wanted” posters of University of Rochester leadership, faculty and employees were plastered across campus buildings on walls, floors, and chalkboards. The vandalism, tied to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, has shocked many at the university.

The posters featured photos of those university community members along with text criticizing either their handling of the school’s response to the Oct. 7 attacks against Israel and the ensuing war in Gaza and Lebanon or their alleged ties to the Israeli war effort and settlement movement.

“I want to be as clear as I can that the University of Rochester strongly denounces the recent display of ‘Wanted’ posters targeting senior University leaders and members of our faculty, staff, and Board of Trustees,” UR president Sarah Mangelsdorf said in a statement late Tuesday afternoon. “This act is disturbing, divisive and intimidating and runs counter to our values as a university.

“Furthermore, several of those depicted appear to have been targeted because they are members of our Jewish community. We view this as antisemitism, which will not be tolerated at our University. This isn’t who we are. This goes against everything we stand for and we have an obligation to reject it.”

Mangelsdorf said UR’s Department of Public Safety is leading an ongoing investigation and “exhausting all available resources to collect evidence and hold those involved accountable for their actions.”

Several subjects of the posters are Jewish, prompting concerns of antisemitism from the university’s Hillel chapter. The university’s official statement made no mention of the incident’s ties to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Biden should step down and let Harris finish his term, Jamal Simmons argues

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/11/10/biden-step-down-appoint-harris-jamal-simmons-argues-00188633

“It would fulfill his last promise,” her former communications director said.

President Joe Biden should step down as president in his final weeks in office to make Vice President Kamala Harris the 47th president — and first female president — of the U.S., Harris’ former communications director Jamal Simmons argued Sunday.

“Joe Biden has been a phenomenal president, he’s lived up to so many of the promises that he’s made. There is one promise left that he can fulfill: Being a transitional figure,” Simmons said on CNN’s “State of the Union” as a panelist.

“He could resign the presidency in the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris the president of the United States. He could absolve her from having to oversee the January 6 transition of her own defeat.”

The economic impacts of Trump’s tariff proposals on Europe

https://www.lse.ac.uk/granthaminstitute/news/if-elected-donald-trumps-proposed-tariffs-would-damage-the-economies-of-united-states-china-and-europe-and-set-back-climate-action/
New research by the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science has found that proposed tariffs put forward by US Presidential Candidate Donald Trump would hit the American economy and could hinder action on climate change.

The research by Dr Aurélien Saussay, laid out in ‘The economic impacts of Trump’s tariff proposals on Europe’, concludes that Donald Trump’s additional tariffs on some imports could lead to a reduction in gross domestic product in the United States by -0.64%, China by -0.68%, and the European Union by a more modest reduction of -0.11%.

Mr Trump has proposed a 100% tariff on all imported vehicles which would, according to the paper, “significantly impact the affordability of electric vehicles in the US market, potentially slowing adoption rates and hampering efforts to reduce transport emissions, given that imported EVs currently account for approximately 30% of the US electric vehicle market.”

Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed in both speeches and media interviews that he is going to implement a universal 10% import tariff on all foreign-made goods, a targeted 60% import tariff on Chinese goods and a 100% tariff on all imported cars. He has also spoken about a 200% tariff on some imported vehicles. While most of the existing tariffs enacted under the previous Trump administration have not been rescinded by the Biden administration, these new proposals still represent a significant escalation of ‘America First’ trade policies and could have wide-ranging economic impacts.

Trump Facing Issues With Ethics Pledge He Signed Into Law

No.1361362 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
President-elect Donald Trump has missed a deadline to submit an ethics pledge promising to avoid conflicts of interest and other ethical issues, a delay that could hamper his transition to the White House, the New York Times reported.

Trump’s transition team missed an October 1 deadline to file the ethics plan that is required by the Presidential Transition Act, the report said.

His team, which was created in August, has also refused to take part in the normal handoff process that begins months before the election, and has disregarded deadlines for signing agreements governing the process.

The delay has precluded the transition team from participating in national security briefings or getting access to federal agencies needed to take control of the government on Inauguration Day on January. 20, 2025, the report said.

“While transition planning is private activity, it is deeply connected to the activity of our government and the stewardship of public resources,” Max Stier, the president and chief executive of the Partnership for Public Service, a nonpartisan group that provides resources to candidates through the Center for Presidential Transition, told the New York Times.

“The avoidance of conflicts of interest and the appearance of conflicts of interest is critical to that task,” he said.

Trump, Preparing to Challenge the Results, Puts His 2020 Playbook Into Action

No.1358675 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/02/us/politics/donald-trump-kalama-harris-campaign.html

Former President Donald J. Trump and his allies are rolling out a late-stage campaign strategy that borrows heavily from the subversive playbook he used to challenge his loss four years ago.

This time, however, he is counting on reinforcements from outside groups built on the false notion of a stolen election.

With Election Day only three days away, Mr. Trump is already claiming the Democrats are “a bunch of cheats,” as his allies in battleground states spread distorted reports of mishaps at the polls to push a narrative of widespread fraud.

Mr. Trump and his most prominent supporters have pointed to partisan polling and betting markets to claim that he is heading for a “crushing victory,” as his top surrogate Elon Musk recently put it. The expectation helps set the stage for disbelief and outrage among his supporters should he lose.

And in a direct echo of his failed — and, prosecutors say, illegal — bid to remain in power after the 2020 election, some of his most influential advisers are suggesting he will yet again seek to claim victory before all the votes are counted.

Post-Election Anger Continues to Rise

IOWA CITY, Iowa (TNND) — A pediatric cardiologist for University of Iowa Health Care is facing an internal probe over a social media post directed at a supporter of President-elect Donald Trump.

Dr.Mayank Sharma engaged in a political conversation with a Trump supporter on X Wednesday morning. After the Trump supporter told him to "stay mad,"Dr. Sharma unleashed a graphic response.

"Well I hope you lose your kid in a school shoo[t]ing," Dr. Sharma wrote. "Already you have nothing to lose, it won't matter to you anyways! Prepare for your kids funeral."

The post was deleted shortly thereafter. Dr. Sharma also deleted his X account, but an archived version of the account reveals his bio identified him as a "pediatric cardiologist."

Dr. Sharma was formerly listed as a pediatric cardiology fellow on the University of Iowa Health Care website. His name no longer appears on the fellowship's website. The fellowship is based at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.

University of Iowa Health Care confirmed in a statement to The National News Desk that the university is "aware of the situation and is reviewing the matter" in accordance with its policies.

"The University of Iowa strongly objects to violence," the statement added.

Dr. Sharma did not respond to an email from The National News Desk sent Wednesday. He previously worked at SUNY Update Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y., where he completed his residency.
