WASHINGTON, May 17 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Walmart <WMT.N> should "eat the tariffs" instead of blaming duties imposed by his administration on imported goods for the retailer's increased prices.
His comments were in response to the world's largest retailer saying this week it would have to start raising prices later this month due to high tariffs.

"Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain. Walmart made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS last year, far more than expected," Trump said in a social media post.
"Between Walmart and China they should, as is said, 'EAT THE TARIFFS,' and not charge valued customers ANYTHING."
A representative of Walmart could not be immediately reached for comment.

A coalition of Democratic lawmakers and advocates on Thursday reintroduced a resolution to offer reparations to descendants of enslaved Africans and people of African descent.

Rep. Summer Lee (D-Pa.) led the reintroduction of the Reparations Now resolution, which was first introduced in 2023 by former Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.).

“We’re here to say that there’s no more waiting, no more watering down, no more putting justice on layaway,” said Lee, the descendant of enslaved Africans. “Black folks are owed more than thoughts and prayers. We’re owed repair, we’re owed restitution and we’re owed justice.”

The resolution calls for the federal government to allocate trillions of dollars in reparations to Black Americans to atone for chattel slavery, Jim Crow and the ongoing effects of other federally sanctioned discriminatory policies.

Last October, at a library in Boynton Beach, Fla., Yelyzaveta Demydenko went with her mom and stepdad to vote for the first time.

Demydenko, who's 22, told a federal investigator that she voted in the presidential election "because she wanted to make a difference." Her mother, Svitlana, also voting for the first time, said she cast a ballot "because she wanted to support the country."

The women, who were born in Ukraine, are green card holders, not U.S. citizens, as is required to vote in federal elections. They now represent two of the first illegal voting charges brought by the Justice Department under President Trump.

The same week, federal law enforcement also announced charges against an Iraqi man accused of casting a ballot in the 2020 election, and a Jamaican woman accused of illegally voting in last year's presidential primary in Florida.

The four cases were made public about a month after Trump signed an executive order that seeks to add new document checks to voter registration, and as Republicans in Congress and in legislatures across the country try to pass laws with similar restrictions.
