Jaime Guttenberg’s family should have been celebrating her college graduation this weekend.

Her family has known that would not be happening ever since Feb. 14, 2018, when 14-year-old Jaime was one of the 17 people killed in the horrific mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. But what was always going to be a difficult weekend for the Guttenbergs became even harder when they discovered the Trump administration was reportedly eliminating a memorial to victims of gun violence.

Jaime’s father, Fred Guttenberg, an advocate for gun control, worked with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Washington, DC to help create the memorial, which was unveiled last year. On a phone call Tuesday morning, he told me that the news of the elimination of the memorial, first reported by the Washington Post on Sunday, is more proof that the Trump administration “doesn’t actually care about violence in America.”

The memorial consisted of about 120 rotating photographs of victims of school shootings, domestic violence homicides, police officers killed on duty, and other victims of gun violence. An accompanying digital kiosk also told the stories of the victims. Jaime and a few other Parkland students were among the initial group of victims memorialized.

MUZAFFARABAD, Pakistan/NEW DELHI, May 7 (Reuters) - India attacked nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistani Kashmir on Wednesday with at least three deaths reported, and Pakistan said it was mounting a response as the worst fighting in years erupted between the longstanding enemies.

Armies of the nuclear-armed neighbours exchanged intense shelling and heavy gunfire across their frontier in disputed Kashmir in at least three places, police and witnesses told Reuters.

India's offensive occurred amid heightened tensions in the aftermath of an attack on Hindu tourists in Indian Kashmir last month. Islamist assailants killed 26 men in the April 22 attack, the worst such violence targeted at civilians in India in nearly two decades.

Pakistan said India launched missiles at three places, but an Indian government statement did not detail the nature of the strikes. India said it struck "terrorist infrastructure" where attacks against it were planned and directed.

An emergency was declared in Pakistan's populous province of Punjab, its chief minister said, and hospitals and emergency services were on high alert.
"A little while ago, the Indian armed forces launched ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed," the Indian statement said.

CAIRO, May 6 (Reuters) - Oman said it mediated a ceasefire deal between Yemen's Houthis and the U.S., marking a major shift in the Iran-aligned group's policy since the start of Israel's war in Gaza in October 2023.
Neither side will target the other, including U.S. vessels in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, Oman said in its statement.

The statement made no mention of the Houthi attacks on Israel.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. will stop bombing the Houthis, saying the group had agreed to stop interrupting important shipping lanes in the Middle East.
The Yemeni group started attacking shipping lanes after the war in Gaza started saying it is in support of Palestinians.

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON, May 6 (Reuters) - Roughly a week after Donald Trump started his second term as president, the U.S. military issued an order to three freight airlines operating out of Dover Air Force Base in Delaware and a U.S. base in Qatar: Stop 11 flights loaded with artillery shells and other weaponry and bound for Ukraine.

In a matter of hours, frantic questions reached Washington from Ukrainians in Kyiv and from officials in Poland, where the shipments were coordinated. Who had ordered the U.S. Transportation Command, known as TRANSCOM, to halt the flights? Was it a permanent pause on all aid? Or just some?

Top national security officials — in the White House, the Pentagon and the State Department — couldn’t provide answers. Within one week, flights were back in the air.
The verbal order originated from the office of Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, according to TRANSCOM records reviewed by Reuters. A TRANSCOM spokesperson said the command received the order via the Pentagon's Joint Staff.

The Israeli prime minister says IDF forces will not launch raids and then abandon territory, "but the opposite".

The plan includes distributing aid, though supplies will not be let in yet.

The Israeli official said the newly approved offensive plan would move Gaza's civilian population southward and keep humanitarian aid from falling into Hamas's hands.

On Sunday, the United Nations rejected what it said was a new plan for aid to be distributed in what it described as Israeli hubs.

It comes as the blockade of Gaza continues, despite international outcry and the devastating humanitarian situation inside.

Israeli cabinet ministers approved plans for the new offensive on Monday morning, hours after it was announced that tens of thousands of reserve soldiers are being called up.

Officials say the plan will help with these war aims but it would also push hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to southern Gaza, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis.

They said the plan included the "capturing of the strip and the holding of territories".

It would also try to prevent Hamas from distributing humanitarian aid, which Israel says strengthens the group's rule in Gaza.

The UN rejected the plan, saying it would leave large parts of the population, including the most vulnerable, without supplies.

It said it "appears designed to reinforce control over life-sustaining items as a pressure tactic - as part of a military strategy".

US President Donald Trump says he will hit movies made in foreign countries with 100% tariffs, as he ramps up trade disputes with nations around the world.

Trump said he was authorizing the US Department of Commerce and Trade Representative to start the process of imposing the levy because America's movie industry was dying "a very fast death."

He blamed a "concerted effort" by other countries that offer incentives to attract filmmakers and studios, which he described as a "National Security threat".

His remarks could spell a "knock-out blow" to the industry, one union warned, where filmmakers have for years left Hollywood for destinations like the UK and Canada in search of lower costs.

Trump said on his Truth Social platform: "It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda!"

"WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!"

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick responded to the announcement, saying, "We're on it."

But the details of the move are unclear. Trump's statement did not say whether the tariff would apply to American production companies producing films abroad.

Several recent major movies produced by US studios were shot outside of America, including Deadpool & Wolverine, Wicked, and Gladiator II.

It was also unclear if the tariffs would apply to films on streaming services, like Netflix, as well as those shown at cinemas, or how they would be calculated.

The founder of European cinema chain Vue, Timothy Richards, questioned how Trump would define a US film.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today program, he said: "Is it where the money comes from? The script, the director, the talent, where it was shot?"
