Fox names Trump ‘Patriot of the Year,’ as stars cozy up to president-elect

No.1366653 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/12/06/fox-news-trump-award/

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Fox News stars feted Donald Trump at the annual Fox Nation Patriots Awards here on Thursday night, and the president-elect praised the “incredible people at Fox” as he accepted an award as “Honorary Patriot of the Year” from the most powerful force in cable television news.

Trump began his brief acceptance speech by alluding to his complaints about the network and noting that he doesn’t like “a couple” people on its staff. But despite Trump’s gripes about Fox’s coverage of his political rivals and of President Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election, the event was a reminder of the long-standing, occasionally troubled and often mutually beneficial relationship between Trump and Fox.

Trump has spent the weeks since Election Day mostly entrenched at his Mar-a-Lago Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, and his decision to fly to Long Island to accept the award from Fox Nation, the TV network’s streaming service, highlights the influential role Fox is poised to play as Trump returns to the White House.

Days before the event, which also honored military veterans, first responders and other community leaders, Trump posted on Truth Social that he looked “greatly forward” to receiving the award, calling the accolade “so nice!” In that post, he took a different tone than he had less than two months ago, when he criticized Fox News’s interview with Vice President Kamala Harris and wrote the network has “grown so weak and soft on the Democrats.”

White House staffer Michael Hopkins, communications director for NY Democrat representative Joe Morelle, is arrested at the white house for attempting to smuggle in several high capacity magazines and ammunition before trump takes office.
I wonder what he was plotting.

House staffer arrested Monday for entering Capitol complex with ammunition
Capitol Police said the staffer is Michael Hopkins, who is the communications director for Rep. Joe Morelle.

A House staffer was arrested Monday morning for entering the Cannon House Office Building with ammunition, according to a statement from the US Capitol Police.

Capitol Police said the staffer is Michael Hopkins, who is the communications director for Rep. Joe Morelle (D-N.Y.).

“USCP officers noticed what appeared to be ammunition on the x-ray screen. After a hand search of the bag, officers found four ammunition magazines and eleven rounds of ammunition,” the police statement read. “The staffer told the officers that he forgot the ammunition was in the bag. 38-year-old Michael Hopkins was arrested, and he is facing charges for unlawful possession of ammunition, including one charge for possession of a high-capacity magazine.”

Earlier Monday morning, Morelle’s office issued a statement about the arrest.

“Our office is fully committed to cooperating with the investigation. As Ranking Member of the Committee on House Administration, Congressman Morelle is devoted to ensuring a safe and secure workplace for all,” the statement read.

Fact Check: Hunter is indeed above the law.

No one is above the law.. Except the Biden family.
Even when Trump pardoned Charles Kushner, it was 14 years after Charles had already served his entire sentence and paid restitution.

Elon Musk gloats as X fact-checks old Biden tweet that ‘no one is above the law’ after Hunter pardon

Elon Musk is among those mocking President Biden’s shocking hypocrisy in granting son Hunter a pardon — noting how fact-checkers on X flagged the president for saying that “no one is above the law.”

Biden’s tweet, an attack on now-President-elect Donald Trump, went viral after Biden announced late Sunday that he was giving a total pardon to his troubled son after repeatedly insisting he would not interfere with justice.

It now has a warning: “President Joe Biden pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, for crimes covering nearly 11 years of ‘offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024.'”

However, X owner and Trump adviser Musk shared a proposed note that was even more damning.

“By pardoning his son Hunter, not merely for a single crime, but for actual or potential crimes he may or may not have created over an eleven-year period, Joe Biden has made clear that some people are, in fact, above the law.”

Musk shared a screenshot to his more than 200 million followers with the simple message: “Community Notes slays.”

Hunter Biden, 54, pleaded guilty in September to nine counts tied to bilking Americans of $1.4 million in taxes and was found guilty of three federal gun charges in June after he was charged with possession of a firearm while addicted to illegal drugs.

The president argued Sunday that Hunter was being pardoned while reversing his previous claim that he would not issue a pardon for the younger Biden

Israel’s Victory in Lebanon

https://understandingwar.org/sites/default/files/Israel%20Lebanon%20Victory%20PDF.pdf
>Israeli operations in Lebanon have defeated Hezbollah and compelled the
group to end its involvement in the October 7 War.
On November 26, Israel and
Hezbollah reached a ceasefire deal that ended Hezbollah's attacks into Israel and required
the group to disarm in southern Lebanon.[1] These conditions achieve the stated Israeli
war aim of safely returning displaced citizens to their homes in northern Israel. The
ceasefire ensures the Israeli right to self-defense against any future threat that Hezbollah
may pose as well.[2] Hezbollah, on the other hand, is severely degraded and has failed to
achieve its stated war aim of compelling Israel to accept a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.[3]
Israel’s victory and Hezbollah’s defeat have drastically changed the security landscape in
the Middle East by limiting Hezbollah’s ability to deter Israel. Though Israel has won this
round of conflict in Lebanon, Hezbollah will almost certainly begin reconstituting its
forces and likely try re-entrenching itself in southern Lebanon at some point. The United
States and Israel must ensure that Hezbollah adheres to the ceasefire. If Hezbollah
violates the ceasefire, the United States must permit Israel to use force to disrupt Hezbollah's efforts to rebuild its forces and the threat that it poses to Israel.

should isps be responsible for piracy?

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/11/supreme-court-may-decide-whether-isps-must-terminate-users-accused-of-piracy/

The Supreme Court signaled it may take up a case that could determine whether Internet service providers must terminate users who are accused of copyright infringement. In an order issued today, the court invited the Department of Justice's solicitor general to file a brief "expressing the views of the United States."

In Sony Music Entertainment v. Cox Communications, the major record labels argue that cable provider Cox should be held liable for failing to terminate users who were repeatedly flagged for infringement based on their IP addresses being connected to torrent downloads.

There was a mixed ruling at the US Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit as the appeals court affirmed a jury's finding that Cox was guilty of willful contributory infringement but reversed a verdict on vicarious infringement "because Cox did not profit from its subscribers' acts of infringement."

Trump assassination attempt hearing goes off the rails as shouting match erupts between acting Secret Service director, GOP rep

Tensions flared as Republicans on the bipartisan task force investigating the assassination attempts against President-elect Donald Trump grilled acting Secret Service director Ronald Rowe during the panel’s final hearing which devolved into a fiery screaming match.

Rowe was set off by Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Texas) who lambasted him for taking nine days to visit the Butler, Pa., site of the first attempted assassination, despite being deputy director. Rowe trekked over to the site only after he was elevated to acting director with the resignation of his boss, Kimberly Cheatle.

Message on bullets fired by UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s assassin bears eerie link to book condemning insurance companies

https://nypost.com/2024/12/05/us-news/unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompsons-assassin-may-have-left-message-on-bullets-used-in-murder-sources/

The at-large suspect who gunned down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Midtown hotel may have left a message on the bullets he used to kill the executive Wednesday morning, according to police sources.

The NYPD is investigating the possible message — which appears to include the words “deny,” “depose” and “defend” — engraved on live rounds and shell casings left behind by the masked assassin after he shot Thompson, 50, several times at about 6:46 a.m. before fleeing, the sources said.

The words are possible attacks on the health insurance industry, in which Thompson is one of the most powerful leaders — and strikingly similar to a 2010 book condemning the business.

Trump DOD pick kicked out of vet group for corruption, drunkenness, sexual misconduct

No.1365978 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pete-hegseth-concerned-veterans-for-america-jessie-jane-duff/

Monterey, California — The battle over President-elect Trump's pick for secretary of defense, Pete Hegseth, may become a test of loyalty for Republican stalwarts — some of whom stood at the center of a bid 10 years ago to remove Hegseth as the head of a veterans' charity over allegations of financial mismanagement, repeated intoxication and sexual misconduct.

One of those who led the effort to oust Hegseth as head of the Concerned Veterans of America in 2016 was Jessie Jane Duff, a Marine veteran who served as one of President-elect Donald Trump's 2024 campaign executive directors, according to multiple Republican insiders familiar with the events, all of whom spoke on the condition they not be named over fear of reprisals from those within the party. Duff sought Hegseth's removal from leadership roles in the veterans' group, CBS News has learned.

While she worked at Concerned Veterans for America as a senior military adviser, Duff allegedly complained about Hegseth's frequent public intoxication, poor leadership and the toxic work climate he fostered within the organization, according to Republican insiders with knowledge of the matter. She also allegedly slighted Hegseth for his service in the National Guard, underscoring that he had only been a "part-time" soldier and not a full-time active-duty servicemember, according to Republican insiders who spoke to CBS News. Two sources said Hegseth fired Duff from Concerned Veterans for America.

Tax filings show Hegseth became a director at Veterans for Freedom in 2006 and executive director in 2007. In 2008, filings show the organization raised over $8.7 million in revenue — but spent over $9 million, including significant sums on media buys and events and initiatives.
