Some legends are one of a kind, like Mewtwo, dialga, palkia, any sort of god or deity i bet. However some others like heatran and shaymin are confirmed to have multiple. (though im pretty sure shaymin is considered mythical? idfc)

I mean if you gave Smith a bottle of the stuff then maybe. as long as he doesnt have to meet whoever made the milk, then it would get weird. For natives maybe it's a different story.

Smith like fighting but he knows his limits, i dont imagine there are any legendaries he would seriously try to beat.... yet?

I imagine buried instincts are how the former humans learn how to fight for the first time to begin with.

Ones that represent unfathomable power tied to forces of the universe and that play an important role on the history of the world, such as Palkia or Dialga, are definitely unique, though I guess Arceus has canonically made extras to give to some japanese 10 year old before if the HGSS event is anything to go by. Ones that represent forces of nature and have unclear origin, like Xerneas or Kyogre, are probably more gray area. Most mythicals and minor legendaries probably have multiple individuals in existence and are just exceedingly rare/powerful, like Mew or Articuno.

Would feel too weird. I'd just ask it kindly to do it itself...

Ronaldo "Godslayer Ronnie" MacDonald would absolutely go for any and all legendaries entirely unprovoked because he feels he has something to prove... and then get curbstomped by them.

Instincts yes, but it's probably more faint for a human :P.

Chespin absolutely would not trust Cyndaquil. Wooper's not the sort to easily dislike others, but would probably avoid Cyndaquil as well due to Chespin's insistence.

you don't need to worry- I'm busy with life, but that busyness is me trying to lay a foundation for my future so I'm not in a bad place or anything
I've definitely been doing well, and it's always nice to see the guild still going (it's been 3 and a half months since the beginning, surreal) :)

I didn't know about the story- I'll definitely try and read it when I can! I'm sure it'll be great, Ribombee's a really talented writer.
Might also drop into the drawing board as well. I just saw the 9th one in full and it's a thing of beauty. So much awesome art

Got back into RTDX a couple days ago and today I went and recruited all the legendary birds. You'd think I'd be at a disadvantage with a Blaziken protag, but I managed to nab the Riled Up quality with a DX Gummi yesterday, and combined with the boost from Blaze and the Power Band I was holding, I managed to absolutely curbstomp Articuno with all 4 of my moves linked together :^] I found a Link Box near the end of the dungeon. Stone Edge + Flame Burst + Overheat + Double Kick just totally destroyed them. I redid the same strategy on Zapdos (now with Articuno on my team), who I then used to beat Moltres with linked Charge + Discharge. Feels good to stomp some bosses after some mishaps with Monster Houses and room-hitting moves yesterday.

Oh, it's done? I thought we'd go a bit longer since there's still empty spots, but that's okay. It's a great board anyway, especially the Youtube comments.
Guess I'll post the Project Orion-inspired art I made for the board. I posted a WIP version before, but the only thing I changed was adding some shading.
I botched Sneasel's lower half, but my attempts to redraw and improve it kept failing. Maybe I'll try again later, but this is the finished version for now.

Not PMD but other official Pokémon media confirms multiple Rayquaza exist. In PMD it's only one as far as we know though.

The part I really hate is how he keeps knocking you away so you have to waste turns getting back in attacking range, meanwhile he's got moves that can hit you from multiple tiles away and target half your team, so for him it's open season while you walk to your doom

If you're not sure what you want to do, maybe try just coming up with a couple of characters and writing a short story introducing them, maybe it's how they met or maybe it's just an average day in their lives, and see if setting down the foundation first gives you any ideas on where to take it next. Project Orion is sort of a vanilla+ hack with a new set of starters and a bunch of other QoL changes. Faster text, ability to freely nickname almost any pokemon after recruitment, a few new pokemon, and a bunch more things that are too numerous to list in one post.

Never played them. The only hack i've played is Orion, mostly because i'm the guy that made it.
It's not a hardmode hack, but several boss fights are made harder, especially the final boss. Some enemies are more threatening due to the buffs they got, for what it's worth. The changelog is too long to post in this thread, so you'll have to look here. https://files.catbox.moe/eriq14.txt

Hell/Heaven is NOT a QoL hack. The difficulty curve gets completely broken and I ragequit after picking up a beginner mission in the first hours of the game and finding out that the dungeon in question had a fucking endgame boss at the end. The author did release an "easy" version later, but I didn't check on it.

Figured this might be a fun place to post this but what does /vp/ think of this crackpot idea for a PMD team?

For details, only four Pokémon can go in a dungeon at the same time but the first three are always with you. The Joltik is the team leader but isn't the protagonist, instead a mon whose always wanted to join a team but couldn't due to needing an electric type near him. The Blitzle is a electric and fire type instead, given a moveset that actually benefit his stats. He's the human turned Pokémon of the story. Whilst the Joltik is an all-rounder and the Blitzle a fast heavy hitter, the Audino acts as a supportive heal and joins relatively quickly after the team is formed. The other three join one after the other at intervals, showing an escalation of both the difficulty of the dungeons and the evolutions of your partners.

For the progression of the dungeon and the type of Pokémon featured in them, I took a page from Pokémon Conquest with this. Normal -> Fire -> Grass -> Water -> Electric -> Bug -> Flying -> Fighting -> Psychic -> Ground -> Rock -> Poison -> Dark -> Ghost -> Steel -> Fairy -> Ice -> Dragon.

I think the problem is that it's hard to do difficulty in a RPG about resource management and navigation. Anything's either going to destroy you or not, or going to destroy you unless you do the best possible thing with the best possible resources.
And the best types/moves/starters/IQ skills... Good luck balancing around those when any player could have crap ones.
Would fans appreciate being given a powerful ally like Absol to ensure hard parts are beatable?

Honestly as a guy working on a Fire Emblem fangame where I always know what characters and resources the player will "probably" have(hoarders won't use items, rushers will skip recruitable characters, morons will let all their guys die, but if they softlock themselves that's on them), I don't envy anyone trying to make a good Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game challenging enough but not too hard. But I do respect the hell out of them for trying.

There's nothing concrete I have in my mind, story wise. I merely focused on piling up an interesting group of starters and working out mechanical things like how the team could work or how the gradual progression of difficult types being focused on would work.

The biggest bit of story I have but also a giant wip is that the Blitzle came about because of the legendary dragons, Zekrom and Reshiram and that's how he has a unique moveset and typing. The idea I had is that the Blitzle is the younger brother of the 'heroes' of truth and ideals, the two whom split the dragons from one Pokémon to two. The younger brother was the one to stop the fighting at the cost of his life and thus was 'chosen' to be the hero of this world and given a new life. Because of that, he has no knowledge of modern things, which I thought might be interesting if you encounter Pokémon who know the modern things humans have done or a modern human turned Pokémon who talk about modern technology or things that the Blitzle can't comprehend. However I fear this would be a terrible idea overall and be rather cringy, so I'm debating on it.

Another update on Orion. The other day, I finished the Manaphy storyline. Big spoilers, obviously: The ending was honestly pretty sad. Not as sad as the main story's ending, of course, but it still got a reaction out of me because of how bittersweet it was. I mean, the kid's so scared and confused, and doesn't understand why he's being taken away from his "mom" and "dad"; meanwhile, the hero/partner are heartbroken, but they can only stand there and watch it happen because it's something that must be done to save their "son". Also, I think the partner and Manaphy were depicted pretty realistically here, which heightened the impact of the scene.
In other news, I've been gradually unlocking more challenge dungeons involving some mystical instruments. Sounds interesting. I'll try those out eventually, once I start feeling more confident.

But I did go to the guild to check anyway... and ran into Team Charm. Now I've been roped into a mission at the infamous Aegis Cave.
I'm pretty sure this is the point where I stopped playing the vanilla game of Sky all those years ago, since the dungeon was so agonizing. I heard Project Orion massively improves the dungeon, though, so I'm sure I'll finally be able to get through it now. I'm looking forward to finally experiencing the rest of the postgame once I get that dungeon out of the way.

Even with my long stories i dont have an outline. I usually just have a series of things i want to touch upon and i just connect them together. It could be considered an outline but it's extremely basic, maybe a sentence's worth of text for the entire story.

Counterfeiting Poke? Good question.
Firstly, is it possible? How magical is Poke? Does it all look the same? I assumed the value is determined by the coin's weight, since they all appear identical. (Perhaps shopkeepers know how to split poke into smaller denominations, or the Poke itself is semi-magic to allow that inherently)
Is Poke made by pokemon? Or was it first found in a mystery dungeon?
I don't know the answers to any of these questions, but Kaiji has a lot of experience with coins and literally knows Payday. If anyone else, Kiyo or Cassie might have tried in the past :P

Going from these tangents, it'd basically be a story in the post-apocalyptic genre. But you'd have to decide on a few groundwork things; namely the nature of the PMD pokemon and how they communicate. Are they more like the anime/mainline pokemon, or the intelligent mons from the PMD games? If the latter, and they can communicate among themselves, how? They all have vastly different physiologies that don't allow for physically making the same sounds, so does each species make their own noises but it gets "magically" translated between mons? Would the human get that same benefit? Or do they all speak a common language that the human may eventually learn? Written language tends to be more structured; is there one in this setting? If so, the human may be able to learn and communicate through it. If the pokemon are as clever as he, but he still remains unable to communicate, then he also has extended isolation to deal with, same as if the pokemon are more akin to mainline.

Now think about it from the pokemon perspective. One of these mythical humans has appeared, in the flesh and completely unaltered! If there's a major pokemon civilization/society in this setting, that'd obviously cause quite a stir. How do they react? Lash out, remove kebab? Try to protect and find a way to overcome the communication barrier? Put him on display like a zoo animal and try to study the nature of humans? A little bit of all of the above? Obviously how the human reacts depends on the character you're writing. I think it can be made to work.

And yes, I did just spend a few hours penning down some non-guild pmd related ideas, thanks for asking.

I always meticulously outline everything. My current story has about 6k words worth of outline and that outline still skips some parts and is vague in others, which has given me some trouble as I'm forced to come up with important parts of a scene as I write it.
I think that's more about my personal style, though... I tend to overthink and overprepare for everything.
As for oneshots, I guess I don't have as much experience with them, but I still plan to outline the ones on my to-do list. I probably won't put as much detail into the outline as I would for part of a larger story since I'm making it all up from scratch anyway.

I figure it to be mostly biological, but with a hint of "internal magic" that allows pokemon to speak a common language. (that the human could learn, or it might just be English anyways!).
Magnemite clearly has a robotic voice so it probably comes from an internal speaker, but the gaps in how that would would physically (ie. Where is the speaker?) is covered by the same sort of magic power that grants all Pokemon access to moves and abilities. It can't all be biological, after all. That's simply not possible.

It's a good question. I'd imagine many would try to protect the human, seeing as how many prophecies/tales there are in the PMD world about humans saving the world. Another might immediately attempt to kill the human, since they apparently bring disaster.

Managed to write 1000 words today (pushing Chapter 2 overall to just over 4k so far, I'd say it's around the halfway mark), I really would've liked to do more but considering the various distractions I had to put up with today (mostly the multiple-hour power outage) I suppose it's good enough.
Here's a (rough) snippet from the scene I stopped on for tonight...
Probably the only F-bomb I'll drop in my stories for a while, so savor it. I have a character that'll be introduced soon(tm) who probably swears quite a lot but it's offset by the fact that they're an isekai from a non-anglosphere country so it won't all be english curse words.

I think if such a story gets made, it would HAVE to focus on that, otherwise it would be exceedingly boring. That's where all the fun in that kind of story lies. See my earlier exceedingly long post on the matter for reference.

Small update on Sky/Orion: I made it through Aegis Cave, defeated another boss, and found a Road Poneglyph.
I've now entered new territory. As I mentioned before, Aegis Cave made me quit vanilla Sky when I played it long ago. Thank you based Wooperdev for making Aegis Cave significantly easier to get through.
I know there's some stuff about Palkia, Cresselia, and Darkrai coming up, but I don't know the full context, so I'm excited to see the conclusion of the postgame. Then I'll probably give the various challenge dungeons a try.

On the topic of Linoone, I recently checked the description of the lookalike item Mix Elixir for the first time, and learned something new. Max Elixir restores PP for your moves, and Mix Elixir does nothing... unless you're Linoone, in which case it works just like a regular Max Elixir.

Got past the Regis in Buried Relic and cleared the quest with the Eon Duo in RTDX today. Being reminded of the teleport gem's existence made me imagine a bossfight against the RT protags in a future PMD game (like fighting Red in Johto) where they use it to teleport around the arena during the fight.

Speaking of, now that I seem to have my drive for writing back and am optimistic I'll soon be able to actually get a start on that partner romance anthology I discussed earlier, how does this sound for the (very basic) outline of the first story?
>MC (not necessarily a human or from the games or anything, but I have plans for that in a future story) makes their way through a tough dungeon fulfilling a request like they do every day, takes a lot of damage (but doesn't really care) because instead of their stronger gear they wear a really weak accessory because it was a gift from their partner
>when they get back home after the job is done, their partner freaks out and is all fussy over them and overreacting to every little scrape even though MC swears they're fine, tries to cheer them up by showing them they were wearing the scarf they made as a gift but that just makes the partner feel guilty and start to cry
>flashback scene to how they first met, MC was an explorer who rescued partner from a dungeon but got banged up really badly in the process, they've been together ever since and partner has always tried to do everything they can to look after MC in return for the kindness they first showed them
>really sappy/fluffy ending with MC comforting partner and saying they don't care how banged up they get because there's nothing in the world more worth protecting than the most special person in the world to them or something like that (but worded even better)
>they kiss and/or cuddle afterwards obviously
Still undecided on the pairing, and on which one should be the boy/girl... I already have two planned that've been nailed down to being from the girl's perspective so maybe I'll make the MC in this one male to balance it out, nothing's final though.
