The more I see Delia Ketchem appear in the anime, the more I get kind of irritated at how often these kinds of shows just decide to have absentee parents with no mention of it. Up until SM, only Brock and May have both parents present; May is better for it, and Brock's parents are deadbeats used (oddly enough) for comedy.

Seems like a global part of Parents within the Pokemon world are a lost cause in their responsibility as . But with how they handled them, I just accepted that if they don't even get shown on on-screen, then they didn't matter to begin with beyond "Hey this lenient or neglecting fuck isn't dead, just not present or important to play a role". It probably was more of a convenience within the Ashnime to just ripping off the game counterparts of parents, which were also only the mother and didn't bothered coming up with a design for a father.

Upon reviewing old clips the JN ending doesn't seem too...bad. Ash has always talked about befriending Pokemon. My only change would be to bring back Primeape.

Will Amethio also have a weak motivation and backstory like this? His multi colored hair and uniform imply that he was a student in Naranja Academy before dropping out and join a shaddy group like The Explorer and commit crimes for them. It obvious that the Explorer goal is to find and explore an ancient underwater civilization and the turtle pokemon within Liko's pendant can take them there like the turtle from Urushima Taro's story. However instead of being a legit exploring team like Project Mew, they commits crime to achieve their goal. I am 80% sure Gibon is ether a sickly old man and terminally ill rich girl who believe to find the cure or elixir to immortality on that sucken civilization.

Is it about the bird itself or do you just really want him to catch a pokemon in general?

Idk, there's 8 other regions and like 10-15 slots depending on if dot gets any (I assume she'll get at least one more poke) so unlike other people I don't care that much about them getting more paldea pokemon right now.

Hell, since ash had two ultra s/m pokemon on his team there's a chance they'll catch a pokemon or two that haven't even been shown off yet from the upcoming DLCs.

Feels like he just need one pokemon to continue the story. I haven't seen anything that believably makes him a candidate to be Nemona's rival specially considering she is already a champion ranked trainer that the anime has acknowledged. She may mentor Roy and Liko but I don't think she will develop the same amount obsession that she had for the player for ether of one of them.

That's probably going to be a milestone in his arc later down the line, maybe 10 or 15 eps away from black fug a showdown between fully evolved croc and shillzard after going through the other titanmons But that will require a team that works together.

If they travel to either location... sure.

I don't know about the festival place, but if the artificial island has any connection to the turtle then I assume it'll be in the anime. Of course terapagos could be in the second dlc just randomly. Wouldn't be the first third game/dlc legendary to be in a location because fuck you why not.

I think Horizons and Dot will end up salvaging Quaxly's rep a bit. Maybe it will help TPC push all that unsold Quaxly merch. Now that I think of it, OS-DP series was more like "Killing Slime for 300 year". It was comfy series about Ash and co meeting various new people and help them with their problem, I can totally see an episode where Ash and co helps a struggling minstrel to improve her singing. I barely remember Gladion in the SM games. The first trailer he was in had him listed as Team Skull's "Enforcer," but he just kind of showed up from time to time to battle the MC like any other rival. I'm sure he had a lot more relevance once the Aether Foundation plot started, but fuck me if I can remember anything besides Lusamine being the most hardcore evil group leader. Anime Gladion seems to be more unapologetically an edgelord, which I appreciate because it's funny. He's also a respectful rival without being a simp. There's a lot of potential here.

I'm 11 eps into BW now, I think Iris and Cilan are the best part of BW so far. The serious TR missions are kinda ruined for me knowing the writers give up on it entirely as BW goes on. Ash's Unova team being all the starters again is meh (although I like Snivy's personality, Osahwott is alright), but knowing they don't get much development also kinda ruins it for me.

But whenever the eps focus on Iris or Cilan or they have a sizeable role in an episode, it's far more interesting than Ash's stuff.

I have a lot of very strong opinions about this baseball themed filler episode of a children's anime and I'm subjecting people to them.

First of all, yes, I get that Pokebaseball is structured that you're allowed to use Pokemon abilities to play the game, but using Turtonator's spikes to block any legal path to homebase seems like cheating on Kiawe's part. Only Ash was hurt by it, so it's not a big deal, but poor sportsmanship still needs to be called out. Secondly, why was Lana not on Ash's team against Team Rocket, but Kiawe was? Lana managed to catch a fly ball and throw another runner out by teaming up with her Poplio. She also hit the only out of the park homerun -- off of Kiawe's pitch no less! Kiawe on the other hand kept throwing bad pitches and can't hit for shit. Why the fuck did Ash and Kiawe represent Team School, they're the worst players! Third, using z-crystals seems like bullshit. Literally steroids. Awful, awful sportsmanship from 'Olu'olu.

Great episode. Absolutely filled to the brim with great faces and animation.

Is it ever explained why Cilan only has Pansage when we first meet him? For a Gym leader it's weird he only has 1 pokemon, and we see him capture the two more he gets later on. Like Brock had two, Misty had three, and Clemont had Magnemite/Magneton, Heliolisk he left at the gym.

The anime has always done an awful job portraying how the gym system works. The writers translate the game teams 1:1 the majority of the time, and worse yet they interpret that as meaning that the gym leader has no other pokemon.

The only valid reason I can think of for them to do this is to avoid confusing children who wonder why the anime gym leader has more pokemon than the game gym leader, but that's retarded because Ash frequently encounters wild pokemon & trainers in areas that aren't present in the games, among other inconsistencies like the whole thunder armor thing.

Do we know if Brassius only has the two pokemon? It would suck if Horizons is also following that cancerous trend.

The life of a Gym leader must be really boring. You basically have to wait at your Gym all hours of the day waiting for some random trainer to show up. While a lot of the Gym leaders are shown they can go traveling (like Fantina, Misty for a bit, Korrina, etc), you basically can't leave the Gym unattended for too long or it gets shut down.

And besides that it's basically the same thing over and over again. You can get challenged multiple times in one day or go weeks without a battle.

Ash beat Bianca in her first ep. I was getting worried for a bit because her Pignite did two massive blows to Pikachu in a row and I thought it was going to lose like it did to Trip's Snivy twice, but at least Ash won here.

Still it makes no sense why Pikachu is so weak in BW? It's literally having trouble beating average pokemon from beginning trainers. I definitely don't remember Pikachu struggling like this even in early Hoenn or DP.

The irony is early BW has almost no filler because the Gyms are paced so close together and there's captures every few eps for either Ash, Iris or Cilan, and the rivals like Bianca, Stephen, Georgia, etc. all get introduced. If they didn't fuck up the league, make the pointless Declora Island arc and handled Episode N better, BW would be more fondly remembered.

I honestly have no idea why Iris was hated so much when BW was airing. She basically has the same interactions with Ash as any Pokemon girl, she gets excited to see cute pokemon (like hugging Lenora's doggo), and her behavior isn't even that much like Misty, it actually resembles when May or Dawn would banter with Ash or say a sarcastic comment to him. And then in other eps she just balances out Cilan like a foil to him or is just there in the sidelines.

Now I still prefer most of the other Pokemon girls over Iris, but the slander/hate she got for literally a decade is really weird.

I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I was tempted to skip over it during my rewatch because everyone says the Lucario movie was the peak, but this ended up being my favorite of the AG movies. I think the "mom" vibe is something that dies with May and Misty; I couldn't imagine doing a similar movie with Dawn, Serena or the Alola girls. The writers seemed to like making the rest of the female companions at Ash's maturity or below, which makes for a different, but usually interesting dynamic on its own. I do miss my moms though.

For whatever reason, the anime part of the Pokemon enterprise was unsatisfactory by the end of Gen 6. They had a massive overturn in writing staff, they radically changed directions for Ash's character (not to mention the look of the show) and then switched the focus of the movies. No real sense of why, aside from maybe changes within OLM to take on more projects. It doesn't seem like XY or the XY movies performed awfully enough to make such a drastic change in direction. I enjoyed the AU Ash, so I'm not going to complain.

The Changes within OLM are more likely. Their Projects post-XY were stacking in quantity, plus the change in Animation Software. And a good of XY's staff(Not sure if it was the same for previous shows) were onetimers and freelancers who were writing and/or animating on one episode and then are moving to something else.

There's really nothing she does in each episode that feels annoying, she does have that "such a child" like in Japanese too but I just kinda overlook it. I remember people saying she was a terrible friend to Ash or things like that, but in the episode Scraggy was hurt/sick she took good care of it while Cilan was preparing a recipe.

Mario's a good example of how to keep a long-running franchise fresh in people's minds without overexposing it. Think of how many Wario/DK/Luigi/other spin off games they've been able to do with Mario's franchise while actual Mario games are hot sellers because they only come out every few years nowadays. Mario has fans dating back to the NES, most people who grew up with Mario in the 80's and 90's are now 30+ year old adults who also took their kids to see the movie with them. I think people don't remember Mario was a huge fad in the NES era similar to Pokemon back in the day, there was a time where Mario was more recognizable worldwide than Mickey Mouse was.

The Playstation era is when Nintendo started to lose its popularity in the late 90's (also due to the N64 sticking with carts instead of CDs), and PS2 overshadowed the Gamecube, but Nintendo bounced back around the Wii/DS days.

People really underestimated how huge Mario really still is.

Friendship ended with Mallow, now Lana is my best friend. Now that she's become the third member of the Alola crew to get a Z-ring and crystal, Lana's just kind of slowly, surely, crept up the power rankings over time. She's rarely the focus for an entire episode at a time, but the few she's had have all been bangers. Plus, she shows up really well as a side gag character in things like the Morelull and the baseball episode.

Plus, four episodes straight of no TRio, with only a brief cameo at the beginning for the sake of having the sight gag of Bewear yanking them from the beach and nigerundayo'ing back to the cave. Excellent stuff.

Lana probably was one of the better things going on at the side. It's been a while since I watched SM myself but she stayed in my head as the comedic one. Tomiyasu left a strong imprint on her notes with that, with Kiawe being second with a notable gap between. The gags with Ash were bottom-tier, in a more or less literal sense.

Also am back after getting the boot for a few days for replying unknowingly to you-know-who. Someone was right about him just reporting everything he doesn't like to further derail threads. That manchild is really lost it since April.

I don't think a Pokemon series has had as good a blending of the weird ass gags from the games (like the Hikers during the Akala Trial) with utterly impressive animated battles. The Inferno Overdrive/Dynamic Full Flame sequence at the end of Kiawe fighting A-Marowak was as intense as most of the most impressive stuff that XY had near the end. Whatever we lost in the style change is easily made up for the extremes that the animators can go to for SM.

It's because the big Rocket plot they were doing was heavily tied to the third gym city and its surrounding areas, so they couldn't take too much time getting everyone there. The pacing slows down considerably after that, the gap between gym 3 and gym 4 is longer than the gap between episode 1 and gym 3.

I made the mistake of going back to the Sun and Moon games because the anime had reminded me of cool locales and whatnot (plus I kept having to look up the English names of some of the PotD, because the Alola dex just has not stuck with me). Almost immediately encountered the game's desire to hold your hand for an hours-long tutorial. I got a few hours in and finally remembered how much of a slog even the good parts are.

I only bring that up because the next episode is the one where Mallow guides Ash into the Totem Lurantis fight. The episode itself is much more engaging than the "item hunt" for Mallow's in-game Trial ever was, and it occurred to me how closely they kept to the basic premises of the games, even when they are doing something so wildly different in terms of rhythm and tone. This one and the treasure hunt episode are also the only times I can remember them acknowledging the existence of things like Star Pieces, Shards, or Miracle Seeds.

BW really should of been a good series. In the first 20 episodes there's only 1 real filler (the Darmatian episode), and every ep is either constant plot, battles, Gym battles, captures, or a rival debuts. I don't know how they fucked this up so bad as it went. If you ignore Trip, early BW starts off very promising.
