Masks and vaccines are a must this holiday, CDC says

No.945708 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Masks and outdoor gatherings will still be the best way to make holiday gatherings safe this year, theUS Centers for Disease Control and Preventionsaid Friday in new guidance.

The CDC's number one advice is for all those who are eligible to get the Covid-19 vaccine before people get together and travel at the holidays. For kids ages 11 and under who aren't yet eligible to get the vaccine, the CDC recommends all those who will be around them over the holidays be vaccinated to protect them.

Unvaccinated adults in the US face an 11 times higher risk of dying from Covid-19 than fully vaccinated individuals and a six times higher risk of testing positive for Covid-19 according tonew datapublished Friday from the CDC.

For indoor gatherings, people should still wear masks, especially the unvaccinated.

Outdoors is still considered safer than indoors for gatherings. Families may want to take additional precautions before they get together, and get tested. The CDC also suggests people avoid crowded spaces before traveling.

Demarrus,a 21 yr old Wendy's "Manager" Douses complaining Patron With hot Oil

No.943417 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
A drive-thru dispute at a Wendy’s in Tennessee turned felonious when a restaurant manager doused a customer with hot oil, leaving the victim with burns and extensive blistering, police allege.

Demarrus Pritchett, a 21-year-old shift manager, is facing an aggravated assault charge following a confrontation Tuesday at a Wendy’s in Nashville.

Pritchett was involved in a “verbal altercation” with customer Zayveon Johnson over “food obtained in the Wendy’s drive-thru.” Johnson contended that the items he received were cold.

A police review of store surveillance footage showed that while Pritchett was “conducting a cash refund,” he returned to the restaurant’s kitchen “to obtain the hot oil in a metal pan.” The scalding oil apparently was taken from a deep fryer.

Upon returning to the drive-thru window, Pritchett “doused Mr. Johnson with the hot oil,” Johnson, 23, was treated at a local hospital for “burns on his left side and arm, which showed obvious, extensive blistering.”

Pritchett reportedly admitted to throwing the scalding oil on Johnson. The Wendy’s employee, cops noted, said that Johnson “had been harassing him over the course of several weeks about cold dogs.” The nature of this purported cold canine conflict is not further addressed in the complaint.

China's chokehold on universities even stronger overseas, Australian case suggests

No.610192 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
An Australian student says he is facing possible expulsion from his university over his criticism of the Chinese government and his university’s strong ties to the country. Drew Pavlou, a sophomore at the University of Queensland in Australia, is faced with the possibility of expulsion after he protested outside the university’s Confucius Institute in a hazmat suit in March.

Pavlou has consistently been a voice against the university’s involvement with China, citing the country’s human rights violations.

The university claims that Pavlou, who characterized the school's Confucius Institute as a “biohazard,” caused harm to its reputation.

UQ boasts on its website that "UQ has more student mobility, research collaborations, and commercialization partnerships with China than with almost any other country."

A student activist, known for criticising UQ's ties to the Chinese Government, has walked out of an expulsion hearing after one hour. Three complaints were made against Drew Pavlou. He claims the uni won't reveal the full extent of the charges.

In an April 30 Twitter thread, Pavlou accused the university of “dirty tactics” involving recruiting a pro-Chinese Communist Party student government candidate to run against him.

“Out of frustration with UQ's bullying tactics and their utter hostility to dialogue or discussion, I took to mocking the UQ Confucius Institute online. I posted a satirical Facebook event: ''UQ Confucius Institute Panel - Why Uyghurs Must Be Exterminated,” wrote Pavlou.

“The satirical nature of this event was clear to any reasonable observer. It was a satirical jab, pointing out the fact that the UQ Confucius Institute is fundamentally an arm of the same state pursuing genocide against Uyghur Muslims,” he continued.

BioNTech CEO says another COVID shot will likely be needed by mid-2022 due to virus mutations

No.939773 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Weeks after the Food and Drug Administration recommended that certain individuals should receive a third shot of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the CEO of BioNTech said another shot may be needed in 2022.

Ugur Sahin, co-founder and CEO of BioNtech, told the Financial Times that new variants of COVID may require a new formula of the vaccine to combat the virus. Sahin said while vaccines protect against delta, the most contagious strain, new variants in the future may emerge that can evade booster shots and the body’s immune defenses.

“This year [a different vaccine] is completely unneeded, but by mid-next year, it could be a different situation,” Sahin told the Financial Times. “This is a continuous evolution, and that evolution has just started.”

BioNTech, a German company, partnered with U.S. pharmaceuticals giant Pfizer Inc. to develop its vaccine, which is currently only one approved by the FDA.

Last week, Pfizer and BioNTech submitted initial data to U.S. regulators about the use of the vaccine in children aged 5 to 11.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 228 million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine have been administered in the U.S. with more than 100 million Americans fully vaccinated with the company’s vaccine.

Two veteran Republican campaign operatives — including one who got a pardon from then-President Donald Trump one month before he left office — are charged in a new federal indictment with funneling $25,000 from a Russian national into the Trump campaign in 2016.

Jesse Benton, 43, and Doug Wead, 75, made brief appearances Monday at a video hearing in U.S. District Court in Washington, pleading not guilty to six felony charges including facilitating a campaign contribution by a foreign national, acting as a straw donor and causing the filing of false campaign finance reports.

The grand jury indictment alleges that Benton and Wead worked together to accept $100,000 from an unidentified Russian national in order to get the foreigner a meeting with then-candidate Trump at a fundraiser in Philadelphia on Sept. 22, 2016.

Neither Trump nor his campaign are mentioned by name in the indictment, but details in the 19-page document make clear that the scheme involved seeking the donation in connection with the Trump event and an opportunity to get face to face with him.

Trump 'I got the Pfizer'

No.939075 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Former President Donald Trump has revealed which COVID-19 vaccine he received before leaving the White House.

"Well, I got the Pfizer and I would have been very happy with any of them," Trump told Yahoo Finance Live in a wide-ranging interview.

The Trump administration spent $18 billion dollars on Operation Warp Speed to develop and deliver multiple vaccine candidates from firms like Pfizer (PFE) Moderna (MRNA) and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) although Pfizer developed its vaccine without any money from the U.S. government.

Student dies due to COVID complications, mother pleads for young people to get vaccinated

No.937211 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Per the article, Tyler was unvaccinated because he had no underlying health conditions and believed he wasn’t at risk because of how young and healthy he was.
His mother pleaded with him to get vaccinated, but she feels the harder she pushed the harder he resisted her. He had eventually agreed to get vaccinated as a 60th birthday present to his mom, but by then it was too late.
RIP Tyler
Get vaccinated guys.

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/573617-bannon-says-he-discussed-how-to-kill-this-administration-in-the-crib
Former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon admitted on his podcast that he told President Trump to "kill this administration in the crib early on" ahead of the Biden presidency and the Jan. 6 insurrection.

"We said and told President Trump. 'you need to kill this administration in the crib early on just by its own incompetence and its illegitimacy,'" Bannon said on Wednesday's episode of his podcast.

"It killed itself," Bannon continued. "Just let this go with what this illegitimate regime is doing. It killed itself. We told you from the very beginning. Just expose it. Just expose it. Never back down. Never give up. This thing will implode.”

Bannon's comments follow reporting from the new book "Peril," by Watergate journalist Bob Woodward and The Washington Post's Robert Costa, in which Bannon expresses similar sentiment to then-President Trump ahead of the Jan. 6 insurrection.

"He's also someone who we realized was talking to President Trump in the final days of the Trump presidency," Costa said on MSNBC, speaking of Bannon. "Talking to President Trump even on Jan. 5, the eve of the insurrection and saying to president Trump, based on our reporting, to kill the Biden presidency in the crib."
