5 White House staffers lose jobs over drugs, marijuana use

No.810858 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
https://apnews.com/article/joe-biden-marijuana-jen-psaki-9034ae417f63e1bd8ae6f957fa173ec3

Five White House staffers have been fired because of their past use of drugs, including marijuana, press secretary Jen Psaki said Friday.

Marijuana has become a delicate issue for President Joe Biden’s administration because 15 states and Washington, D.C., allow for recreational usage, despite a federal prohibition. The administration has tried not to automatically penalize potential staffers for legal behavior in their communities by developing a more flexible policy, Psaki said in a statement to The Associated Press.

“In an effort to ensure that more people have an opportunity to serve the public, we worked in coordination with the security service to ensure that more people have the opportunity to serve than would not have in the past with the same level of recent drug use,” Psaki said. “While we will not get into individual cases, there were additional factors at play in many instances for the small number of individuals who were terminated.”

The Daily Beast website first reported the firings Thursday night.

Hundreds of aides in the 2-month-old Biden administration have cleared the suitability review by career staffers handling security issues. The White House has said there can be multiple factors for dismissals, including hard drug use. The marijuana policy has become less stringent under the Biden administration, allowing for up to 15 past uses in a year among White House staffers.

Huge Win for America: Democrats bulldoze Republican obstruction and pass American Rescue Plan

No.805282 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
Help is on the way America, be sure to remember EVERY Republican voted against this and wanted you to be broke and die.

https://apnews.com/article/house-vote-coronavirus-relief-package-33f4902ca9a2aed4e76274af6bb2ea5c

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Congress riven along party lines approved the landmark $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill Wednesday, as President Joe Biden and Democrats claimed a major triumph on legislation marshaling the government’s spending might against twin pandemic and economic crises that have upended a nation.

The House gave final congressional approval to the sweeping package by a near party line 220-211 vote precisely seven weeks after Biden entered the White House and four days after the Senate passed the bill. Republicans in both chambers opposed the legislation unanimously, characterizing it as bloated, crammed with liberal policies and heedless of signs the crises are easing.

“Help is here,” Biden tweeted moments after the roll call, which ended with applause from Democratic lawmakers. Biden said he’d sign the measure Friday.

Most noticeable to many Americans are provisions providing up to $1,400 direct payments this year to most adults and extending $300 weekly emergency unemployment benefits into early September. But the legislation goes far beyond that.

The measure addresses Democrats’ campaign promises and Biden’s top initial priority of easing a one-two punch that first hit the country a year ago. Since then, many Americans have been relegated to hermit-like lifestyles in their homes to avoid a disease that’s killed over 525,000 people — about the population of Wichita, Kansas — and plunged the economy to its deepest depths since the Great Depression.

“Today we have a decision to make of tremendous consequence,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., “a decision that will make a difference for millions of Americans, saving lives and livelihoods.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Metro Nashville police officer remains in the hospital Saturday after being wounded in a shootout that left a woman dead.

“I just visited with Officer Josh Baker just to check on his condition, meet with his family,” said MNPD Chief John Drake, adding that Officer Baker’s condition was stable. “He is in good spirits.”

Police said the shooting happened just after 9:30 a.m. Friday when Officer Baker attempted to serve outstanding warrants outside the Dollar General on Brick Church Pike near the intersection of Ewing Drive. He encountered a driver, identified as Nika Holbert, who was behind the wheel of a car linked to several outstanding warrants.

“Officer Baker had knowledge that this car was registered to a person with outstanding warrants and that’s the reason Officer Baker was going after this particular vehicle,” said MNPD Spokesman Don Aaron. “That’s why he went into the parking lot. He was aware that the owner of the car had five felony drug warrants and one misdemeanor warrant.”

Metro police released dashcam video showing Baker stopping Holbert and finding a powdery substance in her bag. Officer Baker attempted to take her into custody and she refused.

After getting back into her car, Holbert produced a gun and shot Baker who returned fire, striking her twice. Holbert fled and crashed the car. She later died at a hospital.

From Air Force One to This Tiny Jet?!? Flying Like Average CEO

https://www.tmz.com/2021/03/11/donald-trump-relegated-cessna-private-jet-post-presidency/

Donald Trump's taking to the friendly skies in a not-so-friendly plane for someone who was the most powerful man on Earth a couple months ago ... a jet so compact he can't stand up in it!!!

Trump was spotted by the DailyMail in NYC taking a few short steps into what appears to be a Cessna Citation X ... a super-midsize jet that's the envy of all social media influencers but a basic bird for your average CEO. The jet's reportedly a 1997 model registered to the Trump Org.

Cali. Volunteers escort Asian seniors to protect them

No.804282 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
Why the hell is there an increase of anti-Asian hate crimes, anyway? I thought they were the one race white people actually liked.
>The troubling wave of violence against Asian Americans across the country has prompted hundreds of volunteers to protect the elderly by escorting them through neighborhoods in Northern California.

>More than 3,000 hate incidents directed at Asian Americans nationwide have been recorded since the pandemic began, with many aimed at the elderly. In New York City, police data reportedly showed these violent attacks have increased by 1,900% over the course of the pandemic.

>Recently reported attacks include a man pouring acid on a woman in New York City and a 61-year-old being slashed with a box cutter. In San Jose, a 64-year-old grandmother was assaulted and robbed after she used an ATM. An 84-year-old man died after he was shoved to the ground in San Francisco.

>Devastated by the violence, Jess Owyoung, a Bay Area native and fourth-generation Chinese American, decided to take action.

>Owyoung reached out to Jacob Azevedo after he published an Instagram post offering to escort anyone in Oakland's Chinatown neighborhood to help them feel safe. The post inspired hundreds to reach out, sharing the same desire to support the community.

>Together, Owyoung, Azevedo and four others founded Compassion in Oakland in February, an organization that pairs volunteer chaperones with elderly Asian Americans who may feel unsafe going on walks or running errands. The group also helps write police reports and provides translation assistance when necessary.

Trump's legacy in the middle-east: Arab Emirates invest $10 billion in Israel

No.806089 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
https://english.ahram.org.eg/News/405868.aspx

United Arab Emirates, which have normalized their relations with Israel under Trump, have announced a $10 billion investment fund in Israel, which has bombed dozens of Iranian ships carrying oil and weapons to Syria in the past two years.

>The United Arab Emirates on Thursday announced it was setting up a $10 billion investment fund aimed at strategic sectors in Israel, with whom it normalised ties last year.
>The decision, the UAE official news agency WAM said, was taken following a "constructive" phone call between Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

>Through the $10 billion fund the UAE "will invest in and alongside Israel, across sectors including energy manufacturing, water, space, healthcare and agri-tech," it said.

Recording of Trump Phone Call to Georgia to Pressure Officials to the Steal Election for Him

No.805929 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
More tapes of Trump committing election fraud.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/recording-of-trump-phone-call-to-georgia-lead-investigator-reveals-new-details-11615411561

ATLANTA—Then-President Donald Trump urged the chief investigator of the Georgia Secretary of State’s office to look for fraud during an audit of mail-in ballots in a suburban Atlanta county, on a phone call he made to her in late December.
During the six-minute call, which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Trump repeatedly said that he won Georgia. “Something bad happened,” he said.
“When the right answer comes out, you’ll be praised,” Mr. Trump told the chief investigator, Frances Watson.

She responded: “I can assure you that our team and the [Georgia Bureau of Investigation], that we are only interested in the truth and finding the information that is based on the facts.”
The Washington Post reported on the call in January, but this is the first time the recording has been released.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has launched a criminal investigation into alleged efforts to have officials in Georgia overturn the state’s results of November’s presidential election. In a February letter to officials, Ms. Willis said a grand jury would convene this month.
In early January, media outlets, including the Journal, published news of a recording of a telephone conversation between Mr. Trump and several supporters and Mr. Raffensperger and his staff. During that Jan. 2 call, Mr. Trump urged Mr. Raffensperger to “find” votes to change the election outcome. He berated Mr. Raffensperger for not doing more to overturn the election.
Representatives of the former president didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

President Biden won the state by about 12,000 votes out of 5 million cast. Two statewide recounts confirmed Mr. Biden won, making Mr. Trump the first sitting Republican president to lose the state since 1992.

Trump Puts Out Sad Statement on Presidential Letterhead Pleading for Credit for COVID Vaccine

https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-puts-out-sad-statement-on-presidential-letterhead-pleading-for-credit-for-covid-vaccine

Former President Donald Trump issued a statement Wednesday on presidential letterhead that read less like an official missive and more like one of his old tweets: “Statement by Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America: I hope that everyone remembers when they’re getting the COVID-19 (often referred to as the China Virus) Vaccine, that if I wasn’t president, you wouldn’t be getting that beautiful ‘shot’ for 5 years, at best, and probably wouldn’t be getting it at all. I hope everyone remembers!” Trump was banned from Twitter on Jan. 8 in the wake of the riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Manhattan Prosecutors Advance Probe Into Trump’s Seven Springs Estate

No.804874 View ViewReplyOriginalReport

https://www.wsj.com/amp/articles/manhattan-prosecutors-advance-probe-into-trumps-seven-springs-estate-11615333894

Manhattan prosecutors are intensifying their investigation into Donald Trump’s businesses, taking aim at a Westchester County, N.Y., estate that the former president unsuccessfully tried to develop, according to people familiar with the matter.

In recent weeks, according to the people, the Manhattan district attorney’s office has issued new subpoenas and requested recordings of local government meetings related to the Trump Organization’s failed attempt to create a luxury subdivision at Seven Springs, a 213-acre property that the former president bought for $7.5 million in 1995.

Mr. Trump has valued the property at up to $291 million in financial statements that the New York attorney general’s office, which is also investigating Seven Springs, said were given to financial institutions. Inflating assets to help secure loans or other financial benefits can be a state criminal offense, legal experts said.

The scrutiny of Seven Springs is part of a broader criminal probe into Mr. Trump, his company and its officers that also includes financial dealings at properties such as Mr. Trump’s flagship Trump Tower in Manhattan, The Wall Street Journal has previously reported. Outside of New York, prosecutors are also examining a loan for the Trump International Hotel and Tower Chicago, people familiar with the matter said, which CNN reported earlier.
