It seems you still don't understand what the reals reason for the whole Space Race between America and Russia was. Nobody cared about putting a man on the moon, it was all about testing rockets that could be repurposed into ICBMs and seizing control of the upper atmosphere to establish spy satellites and orbital weapons platforms/countermeasures. Anyone with a military who doesn't want to be at the mercy of getting nuked from orbit has an interest in getting their people - and gizmos - into space.

i'll take this, a space station altmode is more fun to me than a typical building/city, but it's still a bit dull. Satellites, that I'm completely down for. Loved that one movie starscream, especially how he was also basically a tie fighter. I want more of those.. cool weird scifi vehicles that are fun and cool unlike the UT altmodes

Yes, those. Which actually do exist and have been up there since the first SDI (AKA the 'Star Wars Program') was being worked on; the project halted under Clinton, but was resumed as SDI-2 a few years after he was out of office and is still being worked on today. The Russians have more than their fair share of shit up there, too - there was a whole thing about one of their satellites that burned up over the mid-west that was believed to be holding no less than six missiles of undisclosed nature around 2010-ish. We believe China is currently attempting to establish their own attack satellites as we speak. I'm not sure what rock you've been living under, but it IS a thing.

Like even completely ignoring any pursuit of scientific discovery or off-planet colony ambitions, from a purely immediate materialistic perspective there are fucking tons of exploitable resources in space;
-There’s an absolutely stupid amount of metals in the asteroids, including some which are genuinely quite scarce on earth.
-The surface of the moon is quite literally covered in over 1 million tons of helium-3 in the surface regolith. Which is a potentially extremely valuable resource for enabling future cheap widespread fusion energy.
-And even just in the coming decade or two, there’s a ton of exotic alloys which can only be formed in zero-G. That’s one of the various future industries Space-X is hoping to enable and capitalize on by upping the amount of space launches by several orders of magnitude.

i was comparing those planetformers to War Planets earlier, it's so sad how Mainframe worked so hard on that show, gave it depth, and the toy company gave them total free rein to make anything they wanted, and... the project was doomed from the start, because the toy concept is shitty. they're just playsets with immobile figurines. Deliberately designed not to have any characters or story you could act out, just generic battle scenarios. No point in making a tv show tie-in for that. A game, maybe.

Neither have I, but I WOULD like to see it done in a fun way. Caved in and bought Ironworks/Airwave, but they were pretty mediocre. Same with TR Broadside years back. I guess it's only the idea that appeals to me.

That sounds familiar, I saw bits of Shadow Raiders now and then, apparently it's praiseworthy enough to give a chance, the premise is interesting enough. From my extremely vague understanding of GI Joe, the rule seems to be to make smaller/medium neat toys, and try to come up with 1-2 kick-ass playsets for each faction, where the idea of being able to place everything you already have on/in the playset thing is enticing enough. I'd also like a big thing to just swoosh around, Sky Lynx and Rodimus are fun in that regard, and I regret not picking up Jetfire.

Iunno, I'm pretty happy with TR Blitzwing and Octane, as well as ER Astrotrain for the most part. Ironically, as much as I went "space? space!!" earlier, Astrotrain's weakest mode is the shuttle and I'm relatively fine with that. I've seen nothing but praises for T30 Sandstorm and both Springers, so I guess it's just "didn't even get a spotlight episode AND he has trouble in both modes" Broadside that gets shafted constantly.

Those Ultramen look cute, unsure if the elbows and knees are just molded details or are actual joints though. Albeit Kreo didn't have much going for articulation, aside from comboners or the later big guys for us. Well, that's interesting - that Dilo looks like it might be a pretool for that rumored 'Gator Megatron vs Bat Primal' two-pack. She's definitely got some similarities to the original Megatron/Iguanus, particularly the tail gun. Nedrybot looks like a whole new mold as well.

Either the second Explorer or the helicopter. Sadly, they already paired 'Muldoon' with Tyrannocon Rex, though, so I can't think of a suitable bot mode. Unless, of course, they go with >>10447145 's idea and do a Decepticon Blue with Autobot Pratt who becomes a motorcycle, but that would be a Jurassic World crossover and not a Jurassic Park one (and I'm pretty sure Blue would be a Maximal/Autobot, not a Predacon/Decepticon).

On the plus side, looks like she's properly scaled to the jeep this time around - despite what was shown in the movie, Dilophosaurus was NOT a small dinosaur. Primal might be the most competent guy on the team, but everybody likes Dinobot more. There were two - one that Nedry saw when he first came down the hill, and the second that climbed into the open car door. The first Dilo only spat at Nedry when he got too close to the jeep - in other words, too close to her sister - and the one in the jeep attacked him when Nedry jumped in and closed the door, effectively trapping her in there with him. There was no plausible reason for it to have just been one Dilo - it would have had to have spat at Nedry, run past him without attacking, jump into the driver's side door (since the other door was closed and the window was up), and waited for him to climb in before attacking him there, which makes no sense at all.

Nope. Slightly taller than a Velociraptor, but still smaller than a human - around the size of the Dilophosauruses in the movie, actually. Dilophosaurus didn't have a frill to begin with irl, nor did it have one in the books - that was entirely a fabrication of the movie.

It was pretty obvious to 6-year-old me when I saw it in the theaters - Nedry got spat at twice by one, then he ran into the jeep (looking back at the Dilo that just spat at him in the process) before jumping in and closing the door - only to turn around and see another one was already in there; the window was shut, the other door was closed, so the only way it could have gotten in was through the door he had left open when he went down the hill, and it couldn't be the same one that was just spitting at him because it would have had to have run past him (without attacking for some reason), then willingly jump into the jeep and wait for him to enter. I should point out that the book states there were two (and they were normal sized, not tiny. Nedry's whole death was far, far more horrific in the book), and given that the movie stayed true to things like the number of raptors (Deinonychus), it's reasonable that's the case here as well.
Apparently, the number of Dilos in the scene has been a point of contention for decades now, but I'm not the only person who concluded there were two. One spat at him. it stood a good distance away, then blinded him. He heard the second one come up from behind...and was awake while they tore him apart, with the whole scene told from his perspective as he basically begged them to kill him. The sad part was that, in the book, Nedry wasn't a bad guy - he was being blackmailed by Dogson.

Yeah, in the book, Nedry is getting taken advantage of by Hammond, who treats him like utter shit and is basically ignoring American labor laws (part of the reason his park is near Vista Rica instead of in the US); Nedry then gets approached by Dodgson, who blackmails him into helping steal some embryos. Nedry tries to double-cross both Hammond and Dodgson, but gets killed, and his evidence against them gets lost in the process. While we never find out what happens to Dodgson (to my recollection), Hammond at least gets his comeuppance in the books (remember that scene in the second movie, where the guy gets mobbed and eaten alive by those tiny Compys? That actually happened in the first book, and it was Hammond who was eaten).

It's unironically always the vendors at fault. Hasbro started shipping half-orders years ago. The second half could be in a week, six months, or never. Diamond, Mezco, Super7 have no idea when "their" product will be manufactured, let alone delivered. Playmates straight up lies to your face about cancelling lines or filling orders. Medicom is painful because they have super long lead times and still end up with inexplicable delays. There are others but I've been out of it too long to remember it all on cue.

You can basically trust Bandai within a month either way. Hasbro's a crap shoot depending on what side of the split you wind up on.

There's a lot to hate, but my personal least-favorite thing is how they moved to flat gray faces from silver. The silver really brought out the sculpts and made them feel so much more dynamic. These just look like disturbing masks with toothless old-man grins.

Sunstreaker, in particular, really reminds me of my grandpa when he used to take his lower dentures out.

The MP is toon AND toy accurate. Aside from the colors of the head, Hoist cartoon design was largely consistent with the toy, like most season 2 Autobots.

I hate that these type of findings most of the time never take a shot of the back of the packaging. I am certain there's more to Airazor than meets the eye, there's pegs that isn't positioned symmetrically to each other on the wings suggesting that the wings do combine in some way and those peg looking things on her 'tail' look like the same type on Mainline Primal's swords.

Minicons are just better, they have more varied robot designs and vehicle modes, can double as weapons or a utility tool when attached to a bot and the transformation scheme are unique compared to Micromasters whose transformation is mostly uniform across the board (yeah it was G1 but they had the opportunity to update that when Siege came around and they didn't do that) and that's it.

Eh, I don't really agree with that. There were some unorthodox designs for sure but the average minicon wasn't much different from micromasters aesthetically, just with better engineering for the time.
And some of them (not pic related, they're just an example of micromaster-esque minicons) had pretty lousy alt modes too. I'd go so far as to say on average the micromasters had better alt modes if only because of their simpler transformations.

That team had a gimmick of gear-wheels. Left guy had a 'tow cable", right had pom-pom gun, and left had chomping teeth. They were also meant to work with another gear based transformer, but the only toy that wound up doing so was Cyclonus and they don't really do anything or attach in a way that lets you use them.

It was kind of just a fan thing but Beast Wars was so vague sometimes, like how Earth wasn't even planned to be prehistoric at first and the writers based their limited knowledge on the comics and the Vok have 2 or 3 possible origins that were never confirmed. The comic continuity expanded universe stuff actually went with Tarantulas being a literal spawn of Unicrontoo. And that's where Apelinq came from and they added him somehow.

Never saw G1, and I loved BW, so 'riding on G1's coattails' doesn't apply - especially since I didn't really like Season 3, where almost all of the G1 references actually were.

It stood just fine on its own. And it wasn't a comedy - having some lighthearted banter here and there or a few gag scenes every now and then doesn't make the whole show's genre a comedy. That you can't tell the difference shows you never watched the thing and got all your info from either Reddit or here, since you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Famously there's an interview with some Takara staff after they made the Classics in '06 and Hasbro was like "holy shit these things are AWESOME" and Takara was just like "that's because they are without gimmicks".

So, I got Leo Prime a fellow lion buddy. This guy is Snarl (not the Dinobot - this one's apparently some kind of tactical super-genius. He's not the Beast Wars one, either, so we've got three guys in the same continuity with the same name but very different personalities). Originally from the Beast Machines toyline, this one's the Universe 2003 repaint, which I thought looked much cooler; I learned after the fact that his original colored version actually suffers from GPS, so it seems I made the right decision in the end.

I actually like his cyborg-lion mode more than Lio Prime's. For starters, he's far more poseable - since his hands are hinged and his feet are on balljoints, he can actually take advantage of his elbow and knees to do leaning or crouching poses. His tail is also on a balljoint, so it can move from side to side or angle up or down a bit. His face can actually move as well, but it's tied to a play feature. Snarl here actually comes with no less than five different play features, which was surprising, since he's just a Deluxe - the first one, shown in my first pic, is that turning hsi head left or right makes his jaw open. The second is shown here - sliding the upper half of his left hip reveals his Spark Crystal - originally a green BM Maximal one, but Universe swapped that crystal for a red BM Dinobot one (why? Who knows) and then covered it with an Autobot tampograph, because the Universe storyline only had two factions and reclassified Maximals and Predacons as Autobots or Decepticons, respectively.

Snarl's next gimmick is that his right bicep has a wheel on it that can be used to make his arm swing up and down at the elbow; in beast mode, this lets him make a clawing motion, while in robot mode, it lets him swing his tail-sword up and down. His left bicep has a button instead of a wheel; pressing this causes the arm to shoot forward a little bit right above the elbow, supposedly to give him a 'rocket punch', which is only really useful in robot mode.
Again, I just want to point out how awesome this guy's colors are - just look at those stripes in his majestic mane! The clear red 'muscles' look great against his gunmetal black body, and the yellow really makes the whole thing pop.

A clearer shot of his bot mode. His last feature is a bit hard to photograph - unlike the otehr four, this one isn't even mentioned in his instructions. That bronze colored piece on the top of his head is actually a button, and pressing it down opens his robot mode jaw; it's spring-loaded, so you need to hold it down to keep his mouth open, hence the difficulty in taking pictures of it. I have no idea why it's a thing, but it's still cool.
Now, getting into his transformation; as you can imagine, it's notreally all that impressive - it's the typical 'beast mode stands up' method they always do for quadrupedal animals, and the bulk of his actual 'transformation' is actually in his mane - you split it in half to reveal his robot head, rotate a piece around, snap it back together, then push his beast head down into his chest and pull the mane down over it to give him his long, flowing locks. His wrists kinda-sorta transform, too - those flaps fold back, you flex the wrists so that they're straight (they need to be angled in Beast Mode), and you fold his thumbs down.

They do. Gears, Sureshot and Sandstorm are all listed as G1. That's how the 2024 toyline is going to roll, it seems.

Despite being a 20-year-old toy, he's got a lot of good flexibility in robot mode that still holds up - like I mentioned before, his feet are balljoints, so he has plenty of ankle articulation; his lower torso also connects to his upper torso via balljoint, so not only does he have waist rotation, but a tiny bit of ab crunch as well. While neither of his arms have rotating biceps due to the gimmicks built into them, his forearms do rotate about halfway down, plus his wrists, thumbs, and fingers are hinged, so there's room to make things work for poses. Lastly, while his robot head is supposed to peg into a slot under his mane to lock it in place, his neck is on a balljoint - meaning that unpegging his head from his mane lets you have free range of motion to turn his head wherever, as seen in pic related.
My only real complaints about this guy are that his beast head seems a little too small - as does his tail-sword thingy. Also, both his box art and the stock photography on the back of the package show that his tail is supposed to be painted black with purple details on it, while the actual toy is just using the same unpainted one from his original release; I haven't decided if I should try painting it or not. Whatever the case, I'm loving him - he's the sixth member of the Universe line I own, the others being Silverbolt, the Crystal Widow and Oilslick (and his Minicon drone) two-pack, and the Stockade and Magna Stampede two-pack (with their two Minicons, which, along with Olislick's buddy, technically brings the count up to nine). Oh, and Universe Minicon Brimstone, so that actually makes it ten. Huh. Guess I just love wacky colors.

It didn't match the tag of the Cyberverse Windblade and Chromia, but there are a lot of things that used Cyber- in the name. Luckily Veccy confirms that was the tag for Cybertron.

I wonder if they will do the War Within Seekers as the retool. Cybertron Starscream's design is based on it, but not quite 1:1.

I made an intelligent use of my money and got Bumblebee Legendary Nemesis Prime off of Mandarake for 8500 yen the other day and he's finally arrived after a few shipping shenanigans.

I'm a big fan of Takara's obsession with making a Nemesis Prime out of just about every Optimus that gets released, though Legendary Optimus and Nemesis are a brand new mold rather than just recolors of the AOE figure. I feel like this figure is one of the best uses of Nemesis Prime's usual bright teal accents with it following Optimus' flame patterns, really unique compared to other ones like the AOE Evasion or new SS-38 recolors just using solid stripes.

He's also deceptively large, more like a Masterpiece figure than anything mainline with the appropriate amount of detail to back it up. Funny enough I believe this actually scales him rather accurately to SS-38 Bumblebee Optimus, since bots in the new film universe are much smaller than in the Bay films.

I don't think I'll be transforming him very much since he feels rather fiddly in hand, I don't know if it's a different kind of plastic used for him or just me being paranoid about ham handing it since almost all of his joints are ratcheted. Same with a feature to swap between faceplate and unmasked faces, which involves a very small piece holding the ball joint in which I didn't feel comfortable dealing with. Still, I'm not sure how widely known or available he was outside of Japan but it's a neat Takara exclusive promotional item to add to the collection.

We've heard nothing about another Prime being made from that mold, period - I've personally been trawling over every sure imaginable for it in the vain hope that a G2 Hero Prime version might come of it. This would be great. Core scale already gets very few releases (characters that scale with each other in that size) so finally a larger size class with a figure for Core scale would be encouraging. I'd appareciate if they'd update the current Prime we got too, who's ok, but I'd like if we could get them all to that Pretender level.

A good trick to improve the stability of the robot mode is to unscrew the croco legs from his legs so that you can partsform them into his leg gaps. On top of filling them out it also adds a lot of support to his feet. They should be able to stay in as a friction fit after doing so.

Transformers Generations Blurr

Feels weirs to just say Generations with no subline

Blurr here is a repaint and slight retool of Generations Drift. Which explains why his very fast car mode is Earth styled and not Cybertronian in any way.

First thing that draws my eye is the four tones of blue for the paint job.
Simple, but not the sort of thing we see often.
Secondly is just the size of it, Blurr is heavier than the last two voyager toys I've handled (rotb mainline Prime and SS Cheetor) by a small amount.

After that he's just a cool car toy. Rolls well on four pinned wheels.
Has smoky headlights with the clear plastic inserts and painted ail lights even.

Gators and crocs have got round torsos. That's how those silly side-to-sidey sprawled legs fit so nicely. And yes there are gators with fat necks, but those have REALLY fat bodies. And more importantly, the shoulder area is narrower, so the neck looks more separate

Robot mode is more where the retooling comes in.
Blurr's got his head swapped in and also replaces all of Drift's blades with guns.

He's a bit bulkier than a Blurr typically might be, with the big shoulders and hip armor, but those same pieces add such great swept back lines to the design.
It's easy to see why they chose to reuse this as Blurr.
The blasters just hide away in the hip armor, same as Drift's smaller swords

The radiated layout of the colour scheme is still mostly present, kinda.
The darkest blue and black are much more present since they're now serving as the torso block and shoulder and thigh assemblies.
The red kneecaps and auto-badge go together. The belt buckle being the only bit of gold is an odd choice.

the voyager is better, but it has a very common joint problem where this one part that is supposed to twist and lock into place doesn't, and it becomes damn near impossible to get the tail to lock in right. or maybe it's the hips, I can't remember. I used a drill to gouge out parts of the plastic and barely finagled mine into beast mode and that's where he's probably gonna stay. But you won't be able to afford him anyway

Now replacing Drift's big sword with a big gun sounds right at face value
Never thought it fit for Blurr myself. Speedy guy would never be using a weapon this big.

What I do like is that that he can hold it.
This mold has very good articulation.
Blurr's neck is on a swivel and a hinge, so he can both shake and nod his head
Shoulders are on ball jioints, with a cut for forward butterfly motion.
Biceps swivel, and the elbows are properly double jointed.
Wrists are ball jointed with a cut to let them bend inward.

No waist swivelage although hip armor is on ball joints and stalks, so you can maneuver it nearly anyway you want.
Hips are ball jointed, thighs swivel, and knees bend. Nothing fancy there

The way the feet are constructed, or rather, fail to be constructed is the toy's biggest weakness.
Blurr is one of those toys that doesn't really have a "bottom of the foot"
He just happens to be making contact with the ground at three points using the facsimile of a foot

Huh. I have no idea what that actually is, but it sounds awesome - I only vaguely remember tidbits about him from the bits and pieces of the Universe comics. Something about him being personally trained by Alpha Trion, having the ability to 'see into the Sparks' of others and making portals?
Also, reading up on it now, it seems that he was actually the second-in-command of the Maximals in general (or third-in-command. The only two who outranked him were Primal and Cheetor, and when Cheetor took command after Optimus died and had to run some errand for the Oracle, he apparently left Snarl in charge of the whole damn army). I never got to read all the prequel stuff to the Universe comics, so that was new to me - I had no idea he was actually an important character. Looks like I already had a bunch of the characters he's seen giving orders to, as well, so that's pretty neat - he's already got his own squad to command.
I really should look into digging up those old 3H comics again - it's been a long time, and I only ever read pieces of them (from before I even started collecting, at that!), so my knowledge is spotty at best.

The expanded lore around that time is really interesting to me. It's the furthest we got on the BW timeline unless Japan did something I'm unaware of. I got into it a little bit because TransArt are doing spider Arcee and Ravage body Tigatron, hopefully more in the future. I wish I could read the comics myself

I don't care if environmentalism stuff is cheesy, I think it's fun (and true, regardless).
It's also why I enjoy stuff like Armada, Animated, and Bayformers' Autobots being mostly utilitarian repair/rescue vehicles or consumer cars, while the Decepticons were mostly all high-end military equipment.

I too like bad guys being fun badass military vehicles, but the good guys being utilitarian rescue shit is so boring to me. That's like, the beast mode equivalent of hyraxes and groundhogs and other nobodies. Plus, rescue-vehicle-shit to me falls right in line with military vehicle shit in that whole oeuvre.
no, I think the good guys should focus hard on being privately-owned vehicles, so it's like the regular joes vs the big deals. How have we not yet gotten a medic type with a transylvanian accent whose altmode is a bloodmobile?

That said, eh, guess that says more about me; I love the more "mundane" types of alt modes, including what you said about beast modes of groundhogs etc. I dunno, I just tend to like more civilian types of transformers because besides making the big imposing guys look even more imposing by comparison, it also makes the world and characters feel more lived-in and believable.
It's like, if you only have big shots, then "is anyone a big shot," yknow?

Seems so. Might be a mold thing.
There are some differences like the extra gold segment on her shorter claw, painting her arm bit yellow, different application of her boob pattern, painting the inside of her leg, and splitting the colors on her lower legs, but nothing that really stands out enough to buy it again, especially if she has the same loose joints as the Buzzworthy release.

Transformers lore is so dumb it wraps around to being genius. It's all to sell toys, right?
