Lmao. The real non-headcanon response from 99.9% of kids was "fuck off Zubat I don't want you" and killing them or using Repels. It took years of convincing for people to realize Crobat was decent.

This is definitely a thing, but in Crobat's case, they could've just as easily had it evolve via night time evolution, or some new held item. Friendship evo does feel a bit random by comparison.
Probably just headcanon, but my takeaway was always this: >>58905742, given that Zubat was PARTICULARLY disliked early on. Rewarding players who bothered to bond with one seems like a Gamefreak move, somewhat akin to Magikarp.

I take it the "rainbow" part of the name is a reference to Alola having lots of rainbows. My headcanon is that multiverse-hopping Giovanni incorporated numerous members of Team Rocket from other worlds but they had a different color for the "R" on their shirt, so Rainbow Rocket is the combination of all of those Rockets. Currently writing a very autistic fanfic where they're the big bads lurking in the background. The final battle is a straight ripoff of Avengers Endgame but it sounds fun to write so fuck it
