cheap bike recommendation

No.2020577 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
Hey guys, I need advice to buy a new bicycle for commuting to work (and also start delivering after work)
I've been using pic related for a year or so now and it was pretty comfy, but I realized that parts and replacements for that kind of bike are rare and very expensive for some reason
To the point that I think is better to just buy a new bike and just forget about it, I have like 300 bucks so maybe I get a cheap fixed gear or single speed since I liked that kind of bike
But do you think I could get a gravel bike with my budget? what bike do you recommend me?

Thoughts on the Dutch using Klinkers instead of asphalt for their streets? The Dutch seem to have an edge on anything transportation-wise compared to the US.

First officer here

No.2039258 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I’m a new first officer on the embrarer. While landing at LAX last night, I was hearing weird voices in my headsets, they were speaking directly to me and were whispering. I turned off my side of the radio and I could still hear them, after we landed and they were still talking while I was doing my comms. Once I unplugged the headset, the voices were gone. What causes this?

Congestion Pricing

No.2032671 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
Can we implement congestion pricing in basically any American city?

I used to think you needed a downtown that was segmented from the rest of the city via a waterway (like South Beach Miami or San Francisco or Manhattan), but now I'm thinking you can just employ it on any urban freeway.

Also, is there any reason NOT to use congestion pricing? It seems like the only way to fund urban freeways. It's been tried and tested in several countries around the world.

One of the great perks of owning a bike in the USA (outside of the only few walkable cities like NYC) is that the chances of it being stolen is very slim. You're probably more likely to experience bike theft in Tokyo, which says a lot. After all, why would anyone want to ride a bike in a place where bikes are unsuitable for using full-time?

City bike instead of a hybrid bike?

No.2036947 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I've been riding a hybrid bike for my errands and short transportation within the city. However as I just learned to ride a bicycle this year I'm still a beginner and still having problems especially if there are lots of cars passing by. There are no protected bike lanes in my city and there are cases wherein I worry I might lose balance and a car or motorcycle might hit me.

So I'm thinking of getting a city bike like this Elops 120 to replace my hybrid bike since I read they are easier to balance and are more stable overall. They also have a bike rack and due to the upright position, more comfortable especially for a beginner rider like me.
However someone told me it would be better to just stick with my bike or get a mountain bike because I will outgrow a city bike after a year. Also my city is full of potholes and speedbumps that aren't comfortable with a city bike. Also there are steep inclines here that I won't be able to climb due to lower number of gears and also since it is a heavier bike overall. I also don't need to spend anything if I just stick to this bike.

All advice are appreciated.
