Newfag here. I live in rural Texas, a few miles away from town, and want to start riding a bicycle to town. Maybe I'm just a coward, but any advice to stay safe? Most of it looks like picrel and the speed limit for cars is 70mph for most of it. There's a few miles where there are no backroads to avoid this. Is it safe to ride on the shoulder? I have a helmet and a high vis vest, is that enough?

You can now buy a Caltrain locomotive

No.2022128 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
>In Caltrain’s transition from diesel to electric, the transit agency opened a new online store featuring a variety of branded merchandise. In addition to holiday sweaters and exclusive boxed models of the new electric train, a much larger commodity is up for sale: the “Caltrain EMD F40PH-2 Locomotive (Used).”
>“These gently used, lovingly maintained 1985 F40 diesel locomotives could be yours,” the listing states. “The historic locomotives come with 40 years of service, and more than 1,000,000 miles traveled. Perfect for your model train set, train-themed diners, ornamental lawn decor or planter box, unconventional bed n breakfast or just to show up your overly gnomed neighbor’s lawn.”
> When Caltrain completes its electrification project with full service Sept. 21, it will retire most of its diesel fleet. Almost 100 gallery cars will likely be sold to another operator, said Caltrain spokesman Dan Lieberman, and the locomotives are being split up by age.
>Nine newer diesel locomotives will remain in use for the Gilroy service, which isn’t undergoing electrification because Caltrain doesn’t own that portion of the corridor. However, Caltrain has 20 diesel locomotives that have passed their expected retirement dates and will no longer be operational.
>These older trains might be scrapped, Lieberman said, but first, Caltrain wanted to give rail fans the opportunity to bring them home and make something out of them.
>The engine must be disabled and the buyer must cover the costs of storage and transportation, according to the listing. The locomotives will officially go up for auction in October.

I love road cyclists

No.2040082 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I love road cyclists.
Personally I would never ride a bicycle on a road, because too many drivers are dangerous.

I love road cyclists because you can instantly tell that people are shitty drivers when they hate cyclists. 100% of peoplenive met who hate cyclists get regular speeding, parking, and other tickets and every single one of them has totalled at least one car.

>They don't belong on the road!
Yes they do, it was in your state issued handbook when you got your learners permit.

>they were under taking!
No, you didn't check your mirror before turning

>the bike lane ended at the intersection, they are supposed to dismount and walk it across!
No it didn't. No they aren't.

>these grown ass men are too old to be playing with toys
Yeah, we get it, you havnt done any exercise since high-school and are so fat you haven't seen your dick in 5 years.

If someone gets angry to the point of openly fantasizing about murdering a cyclist I know they are a shitty, angry driver who shouldn't be allowed to drive, and aren't safe to ride with.

Oh no, a cyclist, I have to slow down for almost 30 seconds and then over take them when safe oh woe is me, my life is over now!
