Shellstorm: Revival

ID:USJf9MnK No.6271242 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
The Great War never ended. Its relentless grind stretches across generations, a cancerous conflict that has consumed the world and left an indelible scar upon the very earth itself.

This is a perpetual struggle for dominance, fought on a scale unheard of in human history. Nations and Empires, once vibrant and hopeful, now stand as hollowed-out titans, their vast armies clashing across ravaged continents. At the heart of every bloody front stand the Shells, armored colossi of steel and fire, each a gargantuan testament to a nations might. These iron behemoths rampage across battlefields the world over, carving the very landscape with cannon, blade and armored fist. They are the ultimate arbiters of this endless war, engines of unparalleled destruction reshaping the very landscape with every brutal engagement.

From the soot-choked fortress cities of western Europe to the grinding quagmire of the Eastern Front, from the frozen wastes of the Siberian Offensive to the sun blasted hellscape of North Africa. A cycle of relentless offensives and desperate defenses, where technology, honed into instruments of unprecedented devastation, serves only to prolong the agony.

This is a world where heroism is measured in inches of blood-soaked ground gained and untold thousands of lives brutally spent. Where every breath is tinged with the dust of millions long dead and the acrid stench of battle. Where the future is not a promise, but a continued, agonizing fight for survival. There is no end in sight, only an unceasing march towards an uncertain, yet undoubtedly brutal, tomorrow.

Welcome to the front line soldier.

>You awaken in....

>A crowded troop transport, the airship lurching in the wind as it comes in for a landing. Thank God, you're airsick (USA)

>Slouched against a crumbling bunker wall, the distant rumble of artillery fire making the rubble shiver (French)

>Sleep? You weren't sleeping. You were resting your eyes for a moment. It's almost time for tea after all (British)

>Rolling out of your bunk, deep beneath the secure walls of an artillery fortress. Awake awake, the Kaiser calls. (German)

>Sleep? Czars balls you haven't slept in days. It's too cold to sleep. Besides, the sirens are going off again the(Russian)

Welcome to /qtg/, a place to talk about quests.

>What is a quest?
An interactive story in which a Quest Master (QM) writes and provides the readers with options on how to proceed — similar to a choose-your-own-adventure book or an old text adventure

Dice (type this in “options”): dice + [no. of dice]d[no. of sides on the dice] (optionally you can add modifiers: dice + [no. of dice]d[no. of sides on the dice]+[modifier]; for a negative modifier type: +-[modifier]

Examples: dice+1d100 = a 1d100 roll, dice+1d100+10 = a 1d100 roll with a +10 modifier.

Spoiler: spoiler or by pressing alt+s in-thread (doesn't work in OP)

>QM question:
What are some inspirations for your quests? Both quests and non-quests.

>Player question:
Pitch a quest, be it one you want to run or one you want to see run but don't have the time/confidence to run (if it's the latter then just run it, it can't hurt). If you don't have an idea for a full quest, then how would you change one you've read/are reading?

>General question:
What did you do during 4chan's downtime? Did you go to another site to get your questing fix or just wait it out? Have you expanded your quest reading to other sites since, or are you /qst/ only?

>Lurker question:
Do you feel more or less confident to post now, after all the dirty laundry has been aired out and the timer decreased? You should still vote btw, unless you're posting from a mobile IP or something and have an excuse.

>Miscellaneous question:
What other boards do you frequent? What boards (besides /qst/) do you wish had more traffic? If you could make a board, what would it be?

‘Patmo-Shoka’.

That was what the facility was called, once. That was long ago though: before the War of Elves and Dragons; before the dawn of Man…

Certainly before the advent of the races of Dwarf, Gnome, or Halfling, who were born there.

In the aeons of conflict since, the facility was lost and forgotten, becoming simply one more hillock among the many such sch hills which rise up from the Steelwood region and roll, like ocean waves, into the so-called Orcwilds of the far northeast. For centuries, maybe millennia, it sat dormant, save for the mechanical and repetitious movements of it magically-animated, mindless maintenance staff: the last remnants of the mysterious race which predated and produced those Little Folk of the world above.

And then, the Ettercap found it. That Unseelie Fey renegade, rebel against her creators, took shelter in the buried pyramid of Patmo-Shoka, and there discovered ‘the forge’: a magical device of great size and power, which could be used to reshape a living creature’s mind and body. In her deranged loneliness, the dark fairy did just that, but not to fix her own twisted form; rather, she kidnapped the children of the neighbouring Men, Elves, and Orcs, to create a family she could otherwise never have, in the form of a horde of purple-skinned and arachnid-faced monsters and a grove of horticultural horrors.

And then you—both of you—found her. Together with your ‘Monstrous Regiment’ of fellow adventurers, who invade the Unseelie’s stronghold, freed its long-sleeping defenders, slaughtered the deformed fairy ‘foundlings’, and captured Patmo-Shoka for your own.

The golden petals of many sun kissed flowers coat the stone pathways stretching for miles towards the Kingdom of Glengarrow. Many watchtowers and warrior lodgings posted along the way and throughout the outer town bustle with activity, today is the day that King Theo 'The Vulture' Helmson and his wife welcome their child to the world. The much sought after land that inhabits and grounds this very kingdom has gone through decades of war with various kingdoms. It's only the past few years that peace had been established and the area was allowed to rebuild under the iron fist of King Theo's rule and the brutal tactics that brought his dynasty victory over the other houses.

Many vines dance and are spread across the protective walls surrounding the kingdom and it's bustling town. Inside the white, stony castle walls, the Queen pushes intensely and screams out in frustration. Stains of her own blood soak the royal bedsheets as the Kingdom's best doctors and scholars work away at ensuring the soon to be newborn's safe delivery.

"Gods be praised! My lord, your babe begins to crown!" One of the gathered helpers tells King Theo.

Urgently the king gets up from his seat, intently watching as you very slowly make your first appearance outside your mothers womb. Your father's long, black hair is slick with sweat, his brow is furrowed, the stress of this hours long delivery keeping him on the edge of his toes.

Slowly and safely as possible, the medical practitioners very cautiously handle your naked body as the final preparations are made in the background of the torchlit room for your birth.

With a high pitched scream you announce your newly borned presence to this world. King Theo, your father is the first one to hold your body, now wrapped in the soothing and comfortable silk garments provided by the esteemed academics who helped delivered you. Your father passes you to your mother, Queen Ilyana Helmson.

"Theo, my love... the babes eyes are as light and blue as our crest." She says, a smile cracking across her face and resting you on top of her bosom as she lays back.

"My lord, congratulations on the birth of your son," the doctor says, drawing a fist and holding it to their own chest. "As is the custom of these lands, and just as your father had done for you. It's time to name the boy." He finishes.

King Theo grasps and rubs at his own chiseled jawline in thought..

>What is your name?
