>>11660053We don't know, and we are unlikely to ever know, but I don't think that poor sales of MM can be attributed solely to Playmates because the movie didn't really help sell figures, though Paramount may have used it to help justify the decision.
My theory is that they bitched one too many times about other licensees, and tried to throw their weight around when renegotiating for the license renewal to try to hamstring the other licensees.
We know they fucked with NECA in the early years, and then fucked with the Super7 vintage line. And recently we had both Joytoy and Jinglihung Turtles go up for preorder on BBTS only to be removed shortly after with no explanation why, and I suspect it was because Playmates was making threats against the licensor for violating a clause in their master license agreement.
So after being a total pain in the ass for Paramount/Viacom for a decade, they tried to dictate terms to stop other companies doing what they are doing, and the licensing department weighed up if it was worth losing money from however many companies they have let have the license just to appease a bunch of whiny chinks that cost the company money every time they start stomping their feet to make the Paramount legal team pore through the contracts to avoid getting fucked over.
