I have this strip in the back, 30" deep and 15' wide>Tons of leaf litter >Top soil seems to be amended, but a little dry >Even saw mushrooms growing last month >Mix of sun and shade throughout the day >Clay soil underneath >Colorado I want to try Alaskan lupine, four o'clocks (which I know can survive here with watering), amaranth, and a ground cover. I have low-but-not-no-knowledge on this stuff, I mostly just know leaf litter mulch and wood chips can help retain moisture and amend the soil over time. Any recommendations?

OP here, trying to soak lupin seeds in a cold paper towel since I hear that helps germination. July is late for planting but seeds are cheap enough to go for it anyway. Got marigolds, amaranth, and this black climbing flower.

>>2827973 I have not needed to do that, just scatter/plant in the garden in fall and they will come up in spring. If you never grew any legume before you might want to use legume inoculant but I did not and they still came up.
They take a while to get first blooms, usually 2nd year you'll see some and 3rd year they'll be huge. Watch out for lupine aphids they killed a bunch of mine.

>>2828171 I don't think the lupine will grow here because clay soil. But I did try the wet paper towel method for a few days and got some small germinations. The last time I tried to grow them I didn't get any, so I think this is the trick. If not this time I will try the seed scattering in the fall.

is it worth / how hard would it be to resole these? these are these boots:
https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/austrian-combat-boots-full-leather-lightweight-model-surplus/68454 i was out in mud and the sole just disconnected. if i tug on it, it'll totally just peel away from the rest of the shoe. i've got clamps and E6000, and also shoe goo. i could probably peel this whole sole off, clean up both sides and stick it back on. or buy a new set of vibram soles on amazon and put new ones on.
or say "fuck it" and throw them away and buy another pair for 60$.
it feels kinda bad to just toss them because all the rest of the shoe is fine, but financially it seems the smartest thing to do.
Anonymous
I had a pair of boots that did the same thing; I tried shoe goo at first but a couple of weeks later it started to peel off again. The second time I used the E6000 and while I expected them to fall apart again they're still holding together good. I still try peeling them around the edges to see if any weak spots are starting but never found any. I have clamps but none that seemed to fit well enough to apply even pressure so instead I used packing tape wound and stretched around tight.

>>2828274 that depends.
If the sole is just removed they'll just reglue it.
If the sole is worn and removed you'll need to pay for a new some and to get it reglued

>>2828274 >or say "fuck it" and throw them away and buy another pair for 60$. well there's your problem

>>2828309 it's not really worn that bad, i think it's just old. like, manufactured in the 80s.

I always end up barely picking any as I forget about them and when I finally remind myself about blackberries and get there the few that are still on the plant are pretty much heat mummified.
Might go have a look at it Friday.

back when i was 14-13 i lived in a town in the middle of nowhere. the nearest city was araund 290 km. one of those days i went on a trip by foot with two of my dogs it was foggy that day so i couldn´t see nothing. out of nowere i sawed a weid looking pink blob of what i pressumed was flesh. it had a horrible smell and it had a weird texture that i couldn´t describe. i was scared shitles and so i ran back to my home and told my grandparent´s about what happend. it was probably a dead shne of he´s sheep escaped while he was eating.

Is catch&release fishing actually a morally acceptable hobby? both from humanitarian and enviromental perspective. Isn't it cruel to plunge a sharp hook into the mouth of a living creature just to play with it for a while, and then release it back into the water a few minutes later? Every minute out of the water is a huge stress for the fish and a chance to suffocate it to death, the hooks penetrate directly into the tissues, often piercing completely through the mouth. Someone might say that in a sense it is a form of torture/animal abuse and that if fish could scream, people would abhor fishing Isn't ending their suffering and killing them on sight just better? At least morally acceptable?

We dont have an abudnace of fish in ireland like canada or usa so we throw most back. Most of the fish you would catch or that anglers target here would not be considered good eating. Perch, Pike, Tench etc. So most anglers fish for fun and relaxation and release the fish. Thats coarse fishing. Sea fishing is a different story. Lots of different fish you can catch and alot of people 85% keep fish from the sea. Game fishing in ireland for salmon and trout has a long trdition of catch to eat but alot of anglers including myselfe advocate for catch and release for salmon as irish salmon populations have been decimated. Prime fisheries like the Galway stretch of river corrib that saw hundreads of salmon caught every season back in the day only sees about 30 or 40 fish caught in the entire season these days. So yeah I dont see anything wrong fishing for food or for fun the fish will be fine as long as not deep hooked. Ive caught northern pike 15lbs plus that had rusty hooks in their throat and were all good fat and healthy.
