The leaves and stuff in my backyard just aren't decaying. They dry out, turn black, then winter comes and freezes the ground for 5 months. When spring rolls around again, everything is practically mummified. There has been a perfectly intact, unchanging, piece of banana peel sitting on the ground for 3 years! And no, I couldn't find any worms. Is it all the pine needles causing this? Why and how does this happen??

I’ve been camping twice now with close friends who go often - and I love it, thought I wouldn’t but I do.

What are some cool gear / camping items that you guys find useful / love?

For example I’ve just got a swag and sleeping bag, fishing rods and camping chair so I’m slowly building my take out kit.

I’m considering getting a cook hot plate, knives, a rifle, dirt bike maybe an outdoor portable shower thing you fill up with water?

What does /O/ like to use when going inner woods? Or never camp without?

External frames are better than modern packs.

It's more comfortable and I can carry more stuff.

My name is Paulo Vitor, I'm 17 and from Manaus, Brazil. I’ve been accepted into the Engineering program at UFSC, in Santa Catarina. It’s an incredible opportunity to change my life and help my family in the future, but it also comes with serious financial challenges.

I chose UFSC over UFAM (in Manaus) because of the education quality and long-term prospects. However, that decision meant leaving my job in the industry. I now work as a delivery rider for iFood, but the income is unstable and I can't save enough to cover the trip or my initial expenses in Florianópolis.

iI’m going to take a 2 week roadtrip where I want to stop at various locations and spend a couple days backpacking or camping at each one, what’s a good idea of places to go or a route? Starting in TX

I like to go nice scenic places with little to no people and take edibles or vape my dab pen and listen to music and take little walks. It's my way of escaping. I don't work Thursdays or Fridays so i go out on those days and avoid the hordes of normies you get on weekends and I can keep human interaction to a minimum. As I get older I realize it's people that hurt you more than anything else.

Do you camp within the fall radius of dead trees?

I have a crippling fear of dogs. The idea that I walk alone in the forest or somewhere in the countryside paralyzes me when I get to think about the idea that there >might< be a stray or even a domesticated dog running free that wants to bite me to death. Yes I know I'm a pussy but it's a part of a childhood trauma where a dog severely bit me. The older I get, the more frustrating it gets. It literally makes all of my outdoor plans impossible. I'm desperate to have a nice, relaxing walk in the forest, but I avoid it with the feeling of paranoia about how many dogs there are inside ready to fucking maul me. Any ideas how to cope with aggressive stray dogs? Bear spray? Knife? Tear gas? How to survive an attack?
