Bear Deterrance/Defense

No.2817290 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
I’m moving to an area where there are grizzlies, and I plan to do a lot of hiking. People seem pretty divided on how to handle bear country. Some say that they’re not that big a deal and all you need is bear spray, proper food storage, maybe some bells, etc. Then other people say that bear spray is useless and you should be carrying a large caliber firearm. What’s the /out/ist take on this?

>25 degrees
>0 precipitation, no rain in the next 10 days minimum
>no clouds at all
>humidity 70% because its fucking england
>so much pollen it looks like its snowing
>air ambulance overhead every day because boy racer cunts keep flipping their shitbangers going down country lanes at 80mph
>can't wait till evening when it cools as the pollen gets worse plus fucking moths everywhere

I fucking hate this time of year lads i just want to go on a nice hike to forget my worries but this shit sucks.

No.2815254 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
So i want to go on a longer hiking trip to Mt Olympus this summer.
Ive done longer multi day hiking trips but none where you have to bring a tent and food for multiple days.
So whats your favourite stuff to bring along?
Whats some secret board knowledge?
Also what do you do for drinks?

Why do you hate urban-stealth-camping so much, /out/? Poor people like to camp, too.
>No, it's not called being homeless.

Well... looks like I won't be swimming today

Kind of funny I don't mind swimming in gator waters unless I SEE a gator then I get scared and won't go. But If I don't see one it's out sight out of mind. This lil guy ruined my morning swim though was about to dip in when I saw him

Puuko Knives

No.2820398 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Who makes a good, standard puuko knife? I just need a chill knife for day to day tasks, not hardcore bushcraft. Splitting wood isn't necessary for this knife, but if it can in an emergency that's a small bonus. If i wind up with a knife as functional as the basic carbon steel mora but prettier I will be happy.
I'm a burger, so if its not on lamnia or knivesofthenorth I probably can't get it. I'll spend like $30-100.

Please help me. I'm thinking about the idea on a serious level of leaving society behind forever. How do i do that? I live in central Europe or the middle east depending on the time. I have a strong meditation practice but will further deepen it, eventually gaining possibly an ability to forego sleep and having to eat and drink. Call me schizo but it's been documented that it's possible. Especially the last two things will make leaving society easier. If you think foregoing hunger and thirst is impossible, at least in my case, you can tell me how I handle that as well. God bless.

>Invite friend group to join me for some hiking shenanigans
>end up getting sidetracked and unable to hike and basically stuck doing tourist shit and drinking
>only manage to squeeze in a two mile little thing by running off basically

Seriously 8 miles isn't that far of a hike. They call me a death march psycho. Where do I find people who are into this shit
