It's been almost a year since the last thread was started. The thread on /xs/ is overwhelmingly focused on gym climbing and there are still a couple people who go /out/ to climb so what the hell. Help out by sharing trip reports, photos, advice, etc.
A place to talk about outdoor climbing in any aspect (trad, sport, bouldering, aid, alpine, etc).
Climbing is inherently dangerous but so are lots of things. Climb at your own risk.

>imagine paying $189 for a ticket to experience vid related
>decide to go out hiking since snow likely will only be good for another month at best
>hit or miss on roads being open
>place i wanted to go to has you walk to the trailhead a good 5-6 mi since road is closed still
>okay, that's fine, get out my snowshoes and gear
>it's not terribly bad on the road with snow, just walking it with my boots for now
>see some old guy skiing towards me
>"ummm hello you can't be walking on this road like that this is groomed for skiing"
>tell him I want to get to the trailhead to hike
>"waaaah you're ruining our skiing path by doing this"
>whatever, keep going while he continues to mop about it
>ends up being a good 9h hike
>walking back to my car
>notice a big suv parked nearby idling
>it's a forest service ranger
>he jumps out as I near my car
>questions if I was walking up their road earlier
>tell him what happened
>gives me a warning never to do it again and just to wait until skiing season is over
i fucking hate skiers

Some properties of wool have been replicated by cheaper synthetic materials, but no single synthetic fiber can achieve all the things wool can, nor is any synthetic fiber used in clothing as durable as wool. Cotton fibers work in almost the opposite fashion as wool, absorbing vast quantities of water, holding onto it, then exposing the wearer's skin to that moisture. Cotton, for instance, has been blamed for deaths caused by hypothermia in cold weather and feels clammy and gross in hot weather.
That’s why it’s positively insulting to call any material made from cotton or synthetic fibers “flannel.” Flannel should only ever be made from wool. To suggest that other materials can work as well, by giving them that name, is dangerously misleading.
