>>2798038Yeah this is going to be the biggest issue right here. The trail is not a thru hike trail and it's not designed with the resupply needs of a journey on foot. Bikes you can get away with carrying a ton of shit and still covering big miles, but not on foot. Info on the ADT for something like this is sparse, because when they describe the trail system its more about the symbolic nature of a large trail network across the nation than a planned out thru hike, which isn't a bad thing for a trail to be but maybe not for this purpose,
Possibly hike a section of it, or identify another trail with similar vibes that you can use for this purpose. Some cursory research is showing me at least that some finishers who have done 100% of it took more than a year or are veteran ultra distance folks. All of them at the minimum recommend getting involved in the trail community to build a support network, especially the state coordinators. At the least step over the whole thing and determine if there's some sections that you don't actually want to do. You may be better off just hiking the cool stuff, taking a bus or train through the boring.
A final alternative if this is the kinda thing you like is to see if biking it has interest for you. Way more data on trans-American bike trips than hiking ones.
