Animal Encounter Stories

No.2788773 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Anyone out here have some cool animal encounter stories? I kind of want to fight a mountain lion and I want to know how fucked you think I would be. I also want to know how I would go about finding one.

I'll share a story of my own to get started
>be me
>hunting in Arizona mountains with gramps and uncle
>We pull into a small glade to eat lunch
>There's a little "pond", not much more than a dirty puddle honestly
>Start to hear some galloping sounds
>Look around confused, we can't really see anything
>A minute or two a group of wild horses come to drink the water
>Surprised how soon we could hear them
>They're kind of nervous, but eventually start to drink
>They probably should be a little scared lol, my uncle's dog very clearly wants to chase them down but we keep him restrained
>Cool moment, we just vibe and watch the horses

Let's year (you)rs, anon

"Buy it for life" non-mummy winter sleeping bag?

No.2791638 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hi anons, I'm looking for a great winter bag that's going to last and could theoretically be repaired. My old Coleman bag (pic related) is falling apart in several places. The main weakness seems to be the rice-paper synthetic outside shell which catches on basically anything and rips easily. This has caused the zipper to start coming off in two places and the shell is ripping in several spots like in the picture (cat is not responsible for any damage)

So what's a good bag ideally with ripstop shell that will last me a good time? It doesn't have to be super sub-zero as I live in the southeast US and our average winter low is about 25°F (-4°C). And I don't want a mummy bag because autism restless legs while sleeping.

Weight isn't a concern, nor is price if it's a good one. So what do I buy?

wtf is (was) this?

found it in my backyard's driveway (there's no poisonous lizards here, in Portugal, btw); it doesn't seem to match any known species listed here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_reptiles_of_Portugal#Lizards
it's about some 15/20 cm long, and looks like it got run over by a car; soon after it was gone (another car probably run over it again and it must've got stuck to its tires, my guess).

ChatGPT hike

No.2791226 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
I asked ChatGPT to create a year long hiking route for me.

I think it did pretty well, results to be posted below. There a few minor tweaks I could make, certainly aiming to stay close to or in wilderness. Might revise later by making an actual mapped out route that adheres more to trailheads but ChatGPT I think has successfully given a really good head start.

Your thoughts are appreciated :)

ways to go out in south america/patagonia?

No.2790312 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
i'll be in south america in january and i'd like to do some multiday hiking in patagonia, but i'm kind of clueless for how accessible this is. i could bring map backpack/tent/gear, but i'll be doing other travelling as well, so i don't really want to lug extra stuff around, but i will if needed. other thought was to rent gear or book cabins/hostels if that's a thing.

googling this type of trip, excursion companies want like $3-5k, so fuck that, how do i hike some of the best trails in this region without spending a fortune?

The US, Canada, and Europe has nothing that compares to Patagonia. I see you guys constantly having dick waving contests over your shitty mountains but they pale in comparison to what you'll find down here along with our views.
