>driving the backroads in New England at about 1am about a year ago >see a big animal in the road >its almost as long as the entire road >its crossing the road and stops over at the treeline >i pass by it and look out my window, window is down >it looks like a wolf/fox, all silver, with bright blue eyes >eyes are slanted and angled >i get a feeling that the animal is really intelligent >its just slightly annoyed that im driving through, but no bad feelings or good feelings either >i continue on my merry way with my midnight cruise wtf was this thing? there arent any wolves or coyotes where i live. the thing looked like an 8 foot long, 3 foot tall, silver wolf-fox hybrid. long snout, big ears, long bushy tail, and very slanted eyes. i cant find anything online that resembles this thing. it looked like a cross between a silver maned wolf (doesnt exist) and a kitsune (also doesnt exist)
I was thinking about how Cincinnati sits right on that bend of the Ohio River, and there's something fascinating about how the city's identity got shaped by being this gateway between the North and South. Like, during the Underground Railroad era, it was literally the first stop to freedom for so many people crossing from Kentucky. But what really struck me is how that geographic position created this unique cultural blend - you've got Southern comfort food traditions mixing with German immigrant influences, creating things like Cincinnati chili that people either love or hate, no middle ground.
The whole city feels like it exists in this perpetual state of between-ness, you know? Not quite Midwest, not quite South, carved into those hills overlooking the river like it's always been watching the flow of history pass by.
Looking for a short video from the beginning of the Ukraine conflict. It was Russian video of a solider and he appears to morph on camera or becomes an (?)animal(?) [?Hawk?/?Falcon?] in a trench its actual war footage 2021-2023 era. This should be enough to remind those who’ve seen it.
Hey, wazis? Google Lens is confidently, spectacularly wrong. It looks like a leaf that got blown up like a balloon. I think something was inside it. At first I thought it was a diseased leaf, but I wondered if it might also be part of an insect that mimics leaves.
>stop by stream/river to get some water >keep walking upstream afterwards along trail >see pic related in middle of that stream/river What do you do at this point? Do you just accept that you fucked up and will likely get sick?
IMHO Aragorn would be way better off with a crossbow than a short bow. Short selfbow is practically useless in an individual combat, and crossbow is both more accurate and more powerful for hunting but can be just as compact if well designed. Name other instances where wrong choice of /out/ equipment was promoted shamelessly in media.
I think I am going to start bow hunting this year. I have woods behind my house that has some decent sized bucks. I have an old compound bow that is 25ish years old. Anyone have a recommendation on a bow? I would like something up to 85 pound draw. What do you shoot? What do you hunt?
