Seems like most people just go out in “nature” (easily accessible walkpath that you can drive to) so they can “look” (take instagram pictures) of the “nature” (cool looking rocks). They don’t give a fuck about actually preserving nature or protecting wildlife or letting nature exist for the sake of it existing. >take car into paved road into national park >park in paved parking lot in pristine area >walk on crowded trail >wait in line to take picture >leave >cross it off their “bucket list” >leave >”wow, national park was breathtaking” Just look how fucking mad the mountain biking “community” got when they were told they couldn’t bring their disruptive hobby into wilderness areas anymore. Look how fucking mad the instagram “community” got when they were told they couldn’t trample wildflowers anymore for their photos. Look how fucking mad the Europeans get over the fact that some US nature isn’t “easily accessible” (we don’t have a train that takes you to the top of the mountain) Look how people hate on places like the Everglades or Indiana sand dunes, saying they “shouldn’t be national parks” because there aren’t photogenic rock structures to pose under. Nature needs to be gatekept harder. It needs to be less accessible and there should be vast swaths of wild set aside where NOBODY can go. We need to preserve these lands for the sake of the wildlife and biodiversity. Fuck your Instagram pictures, you’re trampling the foliage and degrading the rocks. Fuck your backpacking, you’re creating human habitat and leaving fucking trash all over the place. Fuck your 4 wheelers and mountain bikes and fucking speakers blasting music. Nobody understands the actual importance of nature, they just feel entitled to go into it and disrupt it and take pictures of it. I used to think that Madagascar was a mysterious island full of strange endemic species and dense exotic forests Turns out the island is over 97% deforested and all the native wildlife is confined to tiny national parks dotted around the island while the rest of the land is slashed and burned to sustain a useless third world population and to line the checkbooks of foreign corporations Really shattered my world view. There truly is no wild space left in the world
Anyone else just got into hiking to flex their wealth on the less fortunate? I legitimately love going into the mountains and flex my full arcteryx fits on people, I don't even like hiking.
I'm going to confess. I don't hunt for food. Not for sport either. I like the killing. I'm so ashamed I'm like this. Everytime I kill an animal, I feel so alive. Isn't this wrong and immoral? This is murder and I'm enjoying every moment of it. I don't even use the carcasses. I just leave them for the vultures. When the season's over, I just feel hollow. I've been fined for shooting into my local pond for trying to shoot the fish. Do other hunters feel like this?

Living in a town where bears roam around more lately, would you still go for walks? The locals do. The thing is that I don't have a vehicle and just walk places with my 2 little ones if husband is out of town and takes our car. This year is awful berries wise so bears are just hungry. Bears don't even care about noise or seeing people. I feel absolutely terrible keeping my little ones indoors all day long. My husband has to travel lots so those are quite a few days just the three of us here. I am even wondering if there is something I could wear, a kind of structure where I pull a string and something could pop up making me look huge. I feel like the worst mama ever, just keeping our kiddos inside. Even going to the playground behind our place makes me nervous.
