Is APS-C still viable in 2025?

I gotta be honest with you, I've been spending a lot of money on camera gear and I have NO IDEA where I'm going to take photos.

How to take photos like pic related? It's shot by Tina Barney and from what I researched is that it's probably on a GFX50SII. Doesn't look like film and the GFX seems to be the only digital camera she is using. Looks rather wide with background separation.. maybe the GF45mm? (35mm equiv). Or an analogue lens. Big softbox speedlight from the right?

Sony colors are inherently unfixable

No.4417126 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Sony alpha camera use extremely thick cover glass in front of their sensors.

Most high end cameras use thinner glass, ie: lumix s1r is 2.4mm, nikon d850 is 2.5mm, nikon z7 is 2.1mm. Sony cover glass is 3.1mm. The only cameras with thicker glass are fuji medium format (3.24mm) and other fujifilm cameras probably. all the shit in front of the sensor and bayer array will always scatter some light, increasing crosstalk and making it so the pixels literally never get the most correct possible color information. This gets worse and worse as the angle of the light hitting the sensor increases, contributing to dimmer and lower resolution corners.

There is scientifically nothing you can do to make sony colors look perfectly natural. The sensor never received the correct information - tonal differences and accurate hues can not be brought back with sliders and curves. This is why every snoy uses heavy handed cinematic or filmic color grading and anyone who doesnt edit their snoy photos to death suffers from dull and weird looking colors.
