>I like tarkovsky's polaroids, melancholic film photography in general, like Paris, Texas too.
>I also like some "midwest emo" aesthetic like in early Twin Peaks, unironically Life is Strange, The Virgin Suicides, The Butterfly Effect, Dazed and Confused, Napoleon Dynamite, Mysterious Skin, early Linklater, Daniel Johnston's music. Someone described this as "being in Goodwill". That style.
>I like the cinematography in Wong Kar Wai films, especially Chungking Express. His use of colors in general.
>I like the cinematography in Buffalo 66, Motorcycle Diaries, Wings of Desire, Aftersun, BARRY LYNDON. All very different movies.

I know jack shit about photography but I hired a decent photographer for a shoot to make my Instagram feed more kino. Any of the aesthetics above are great imo.
I'm located in Buenos Aires. Fortunately I have the money but I don't have the ideas. What would you do in my case? I don't mind borrowing heavily from any of these movies, it's encouraged.
Also I don't mind going to the countryside or anywhere really, I have free time. Anything is appreciated: ideas, locations, inspo, advice, etc.

Note: I'm in college so I need to fit in, i can't go overboard and look like a freak or a schizo. It is kino but I can't pull it off. Just basic good artistic taste and looking good does it. I also don't want to brag about money or give off "frat bro" style.

Help me achieve the Walten Files-accurate VHS/16mm effect

No.4412328 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
You know why I love The Walten Files?
Not only because of gore
The VHS/16mm in the series is so realistic and authentic to 1970s but I don't know how to achieve
1980s and 1990s effect is easy to achieve by using NSTC-RS and NSTCQT but the 1970s especially the one used in Walten Files 4 that even was mixing with 16mm is... How to say it... I don't know how to do it in the first place
I will very appreciate the help because I really want know how the fuck Martin Walls achieved that so good 1970s VHS/16mm effect
I know that its odd because it very rare to see the thread that is not personal life related on /adv/ but you can tell me on which board is should instead ask such question and maybe jannie will move this thread to a board where they can help me better who knows
Pls help

photo sequencing

No.4409606 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
im looking for some software that would help me experiment with sequencing my photos for zines and exhibits and photo essays. i have tried the following:

>digikam
this is what i use to organize photos into sets. its fine. but it gives me thumbnails which are sorted by date or whatever. there’s no way to do sequencing as far as i know.

>notion.so
not bad. you can drag photos around easily, put them next to eachother etc. requires a paid subscription to be able to upload large images though. i am allergic to paid subscriptions.

>affinity publisher (similar to adobe indesign)
not very good for quick experiments because dragging things around is tedious. the advantage though is that what you get is literally a photobook. so you’re closer to a result when you play with this app.

>ordering a shitload of small prints
i saw some jesus youtuber guy talk about this. its fine, i guess. but i dont’ want to order a bunch of prints, and i don’t have much clean physical space to arrange them in, since my house is also the toilet. im really looking for a software solution that i can use to drag a thousand images around.

>photomechanic
$299-399 for a perpetual license. haha.

What camera provides status like Leica?

No.4411856 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
But cheaper. I don't care about functionality, only status.
Owning such cameras instantly improves how people perceive your work, regardless of skill level.

Guys im extremely worried flickr is about to go under.

Today I logged into my account and a giant black box comes down that covers 2 out of 3 rows of images. There is no option to close it or make it go away. And it just flashes adds non stop so its really distracting to your eyes while you try to just look at one line of photos across the bottom of your screen.

I half solved it by zooming my screen the fuck out making the images small so I can fit 2 rows of images in the part I can see but now the images are quite small.

That is on top of already having ads everywhere and spamming my email address with spam.

I also have a paid account but found out that anytime I sent a link to other people to see my images they see an ad every 3-5 images and also get a pop up box on every single image asking them to join.

They wouldnt be doing this unless they are about to go bankrupt, its so unuser friendly now. Its basically saying pay up or quit.

Tips for carrying a camera around?

No.4412103 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I want to carry my camera around with me more but I hate camera bags, and I especially hate the big camera backpacks. But I also struggle with carrying my camera around and not having to worry about it. I would like to slip it in my bag with me when I go out, that way I have it on me if I see something cool, but I don't want it to get in the way if I need to do some shopping, and I want it to be protected so I don't have to worry about it getting broken in my bag. I use a mirrorless camera with a pancake prime lens and a wrist strap, I don't carry any equipment with me except for maybe a spare battery.

Film cameras are no issue. I have a half frame compact camera and it fits easily into my jacket pocket. I also have a point and shoot which has a little pouch for strapping to my body. It's just the digital camera that I'm concerned about. Digital cameras feel more fragile for whatever reason.
