>>4440508Also difficult scene to capture because of high contrast. This isn't one you're going to get a good shot of SOOC. Next time try exposing for the bright sky (not the sun), then drop the exposure by 2 stops to put the sky's exposure near the upper end of the sensor's range.
How to do it on KF:
1) Set wheel to M, and set your ISO to probably 100.
2) Set your Exposure Composition (button is on the top next to the green button / shutter) to +2.
3) Go to Q-menu / info screen, set AE metering to spot, make sure File Format is RAW and not JPEG.
4) Point the camera so a bright portion of the sky is in the middle circle in your viewfinder.
5) Press the Green button.
6) Now don't touch anything related to exposure unless you have a good reason (and you'll probably want to compensate for it with other exposure settings. Hint: On Pentax cameras in M mode, the AE-lock automatically compensates adjustments to exposure settings).
7) Now compose your photo and take a picture.
8) Your picture will probably be dark. Fix that in Lightroom or Darktable or whatever, and you'll have a better picture that isn't washed out, than if you didn't follow this process.
9) Learn the Zone System and associate different Zones to different EV Compensation values, to get awesome metering wherever you are, with better capability to prioritize highlights, shadows, etc. (Basically, Zone IX is EV+2, do basic math from there for other Zones).
Pentax's green button makes this really easy.
