>>1557178Depends on the subject. But basically do problems. It’s the most efficient way. Timed like the exam is even better.
Math, STEM: Do a lot of problems. Priority: hw > quizzes > old exams > problem books with solutions > assigned textbook.
Non-STEM: Active recall. Teach an empty classroom about the subject. Verbalize it, not silently.
Facts and figures: Flashcards. If using programs like Anki, remember you only need 2 features: cloze and reverse cards. Don’t procrastinate by changing settings and installing plugins.
Approach to learn from problems with solutions:
1. Try a problem. Perhaps for 5 mins, 15 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour. You need to decide how long you’re going to spend on a problem, considering the amount of problems you have (HWs, old exams, etc.) and the available time.
2. Check the solution. Figure out what went wrong. Knowledge gaps, misunderstanding, forgotten facts/formulas, etc.
3. Take notes of your mistakes. Write it in a notebook. Refer to it when stuck with future problems.
4. Do another problem. Rinse and repeat.
Cal Newport’s How to Become a Straight-A Student was often recommended. Avoid his newer books, they are just productivity guru BS.
