Two pieces of Kapton tape with a gap between them leaving only a single trace exposed at a time or some soft graphite from a pencil or a line of solder retardant could be very useful when soldering on jumpers to prevent the solder spreading to where it's not wanted, though repair trace tape might be even easier for you.
If you solder you're under no obligation to put all the solder in a row. You can stagger the ends like pic related scraping different parts of the board to expose the conductor and the solder is less likely so spread where you don't want it if you're not quite as neat as you need to be.
If you don't know how to solder already practice first. It's not hard but you don't want to learn on a mobo where a mistake like slip or overheating will make it even worse.
If the power was on when you damaged it physically you could have shorted the circuit and damaged something else. In fact, even if the power wasn't on there might have been undischarged capacitors that could have shorted.
