I've never been on a thru-hike. I want to start off with one I can be done with in 3-4 days max and ideally I want a loop to reduce travel logistics. Or if it is a straight line, for it to be out and back in the 3-4 day timeframe.

for breakfasts i premake a bunch of french toast. i butter it extra heavily while it's still hot, so it really melts and soaks in. i can't speak for extra hot, humid places like the south, but i can vouch it lasts at least 5 days pretty much anywhere in california.

Most of my meals is just repackaged microwave stuff. One of my favorites as of late is Mac n cheese with BBQ pulled pork. I get the microwave Mac n cheese cups, empty 2 of those in a bag, and mix it with a pouch of Great Value pulled pork. Have been experimenting with baked potatoes and sausage hobo pockets as an easy one. Add some butter, some dried herbs, chopped veg if you're prepping them before hand, chuck em by the embers, poke it every 20min until ready.

It's a lot lighter than steel, so if you're one of those lightweight fags it's good. But it sucks for cooking because it conducts heat way faster than stainless steel, which means it will burn your food really easily. I'm more of a canoe camper than a backpacker so I don't really care that much about a few extra pounds, but I could see it making a difference if you're mountaineering.

The problem is the shoulder strap configuration and lack of waste belt are shit and would be uncomfortable on a long hike. This is literally an overpriced Jan-sport with features you don't really need for using as a school backpack.

A 30 liter daypack (30l is big enough for an over night pack as well) needs a much better strap and load distribution system to be good on long hikes... and this pack doesn't have that.
