What format do you guys shoot in? I just do JPEG because I am too lazy to process my pics. Am I missing out on superior quality?

My camera is a D5100 Nikon, haven't been out with it yet, but I'd like to know the opinions of other /out/-ists.

Motocamping thread

No.2811491 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
The other motocamping thread is megaretarded so I'm starting a slightly less retarded one.

I haven't been camping since I was a kid. Basically starting from scratch and looking for advice. Things to consider:
>Gear can be heavy but not too bulky
>I will not be hiking with it
>Late spring thru early fall
>east coast/Appalachia
>I am frugal

My storage setup is:
27L (each side) soft saddlebags
Tank bag
65L Flecktarn rucksack on passenger seat/sissy bar

I need to get:
>Tent
3 (maybe 2) man tent with room for my gear and/or gf. Easy to setup/pack away. Good rain protection preferred but I might just hit a motel in bad weather.
>Hammock?
Open to the hammockpill but leaning toward tent for the dry gear storage
>Ground sheet/footprint
Is this necessary?
>Sleeping mat
Foam seems best but leaning toward inflatable to maximize storage
>Sleeping bag
>Hydration system
Considering bladder or nalgene w/ hose adapter in my tank bag. Need a slick way to secure the hose so that I can easily grab it one handed while riding (magnets?). Probably need a pretty long hose too.
>Mess kit/stove?
I will have daily access to gas station slop and I don't mind cold food. I might skip this but will consider suggestions.

I'm good on riding gear and I have odds and ends (flashlights, knives, tool kit, navigation, etc.), just need the big stuff. Amazon garbage and used gear/milsurp is more my budget but I will consider dropping moderate cash on something if the convenience/durability/QOL is there. Also is this possible with a passenger?? I can't imagine packing all this shit without the sissy bar bag, especially with a second sleeping bag/mat and more clothes.

What is life like living (or traveling) in the Northern Gulf Coast?

Tell me about the weather, plants, animals, locals, etc.

Do you hated there, do you love it there?

I'm genuinely curious.

Realistically speaking what are you supposed to do if a moose walks out in front of you on the trail and turns and stares you down? Can you just walk past them if it's not mating season?

Why does this image trigger /out/ so much? It's not like you go outside.

I'm trying to get into rockhounding - literally just collecting cool looking rocks. But I live in new England and there are very few cool rocks here in New England. I'm gonna try a riverbed next weekend but I am just looking for tips on what to look for. I know I'm not going to find many agates here, definitely no geodes... anybody else find rocks and use their old tile saw to cut them in half and see what they look like inside?
