Anything I should lookout for? Obviously i want a maintained roof and no prior leaks.
Im looking at 4-6000 campers right now and wondering if I might as well drop 8-12k
I already have an outdoor kitchen,
Maybe I will build a roof or porch for it.
Any advice or considerations on buying and also living in an older camper?

Will you be paying your friend rent or utilities? Let's just say you will be paying your friend a few hundred bucks a month to park that POS eyesore on his property and connect to his utilities.

That, combined with you spending $8k on a trailer, another few thousand fixing and maintaining it, and you are in rent territory with none of the benefit of an actual roof over your head.

Unless you have some reason to live in a trailer (drugs, most likely), you can rent a room in a house with roommates for $600 a month, depending on the city, everything included. I don't know anything about the used trailer market, but I don't imagine those pieces of junk hold their value very well. You must really value privacy to make that tradeoff.

All i can say is make sure you have a way for proper ventilation and if possible create a positive pressure. Im surrounded by faggot cunt neighbors who burn wet wood and garbage year round and its been a nightmare keeping this thing properly insulated. I dont have time to do a full remodel of it so its had to do for now but fuck me man between that shit and the car exhaust make sure you are in a good spot away from stuff like that. Hey /out/, what should I do if I get stung by a scorpion while camping? I’m often far from medical help, and they won’t sell me antivenom, i already asked a lot of places.
I remember hearing about a plant that works against scorpion venom about 15 years ago, but I can’t remember the name. Does anyone know about this or have alternativetreatments?

Remember that deaths or serious injury from these kind of things are largely limited to the elderly or kids or already sick. A healthy adult will do fine, or at least the odds arent much different than other freak accident odds people accept while out like lightning or trees falling. Just check for them in and around your shit.

To answer the medical question, for an /out/ trip all you can really do is bring sting relief cream/wipes to lessen the pain of a possible sting. Or pay for a gps device to have an sos at all times.

Like the other anon said, it's only life threatening if you're a little kid, super old, or weak. The antivenom wasn't commonly available until recently. My wife got stung by one and her doctor basically told her to just suffer. She kept the scorpion as a pet for a while.

i got a version of that but part of the top part is a breathable mesh, it's great. i used to use a truckers hat but it was shit, had to move it constantly to keep it pointed towards the sun,. didn't cover the neck anyway, never going back

I know that the south is a lot less 'nicer' than the northern end but i'm hoping that's a normie filter and would mean there is less people around. I know there are still a good amount of redwoods in the south too. I'm thinking of camping at plaskett creek campground.

thats a pretty cool area. there is a nice beach across the road. and limekiln is cool. Naciemento-Ferguson rd gets you way up into the hills but could be sketchy in big rain. Same with Plaskett ridge rd- worth checking out. there probably are less people coming from the south but you'd be missing some pretty cool stuff. I love big sur. I miss it. enjoy.

Depends on what you want to do and what you want to see. Daytime temperature will be nice but it is likely to be wet; not a bad thing since it means that it will be a lot greener and the cold will keep the bugs more away.

The trails in the Ventana wilderness aren't maintained well and require a good amount of bushwhacking, but you'll be completely alone. Map out your water sources before you backpack.

The coastal highway tends to close on the regular due to landslides.

I day hiked Ventana Double cone last January and it was a miserable 32 miles, but the sunset and views were world class and I only saw two people near the trailhead by the end,

I have! We don't have many canyons here but it's an appealing "format" to me. I like the mix of routefinding, climbing and water traversal. Maybe in the future if I make some friends I can try stuff like this.

You’re right that going alone is fucking dumb and that was Ralston’s biggest mistake but you’re wrong that canyoneering is just as safe as climbing. Canyoneering is far far far riskier than sport or even trad climbing. The most dangerous thing one does routinely while climbing is rappelling and that’s the main thing you do in canyoneering. Scores of very experienced canyoneers have died from flash floods, drowning, or hypothermia even in the middle of the summer in places like Zion. There is a ton of technical knowledge required to canyoneer safely whereas climbing, especially sport climbing, has a relative lower knowledge curve when starting off.

Anyone interested in canyoneering should take classes, pay a guide, or find a guru to teach them the ways. And never do it alone.
