>>58778517>Doesn't Pokemon already have deals with other block building companies?Yes.
>Did they expire?Yes.
>How did Lego manage to wrangle Pokemon from those?Around 25 years ago Lego lost a key patent on their bricks, allowing anyone to be able to make legos to their exact specification and quality. Rather than do the expected, retarded, thing and
trudge on and lose to other companies Lego actually adapted to the change in business climate and pivoted to license deals. Sure anyone can make legos, but if you want Harry Potter legos, or Star Wars legos, or Minecraft legos, you have to buy the Lego brand ones. Over the course of two decades Lego went on to become the largest (by market capitalization) toy company in the world. Also during this time they began to cater to adults as well as children, making them even more sales through the Ideas collection. Because of these things, Lego has a tremendous amount of money and sway in the toy industry. If they bid on a license deal, they win. The Megablock deal expiring basically just meant it was free game for Lego to move in.
