I'm suddenly imagining a generic product shot, where the item is resting in the center while surrounded by a gratuitous amount of colored lights with a pointlessly extravagant background. It depends on what you are trying to achieve. That looks like a record sleeve and will therefore have been printed from cmyk inks. Get your lighting right and convert to monochrome in Photoshop The covert back to cmyk and fuck around with curves until you get it how you want

I'm a big guy so I dont think the bulk would bother me, having to either plug in the camera or the SD card into my rig might be a little annoying but I guess it might be worth it to get really into it.

agreed, i shoot pentax for this reason because i can use the same lenses on a 90s autofocus film body that cost nothing

pick up a dslr and when you feel more confident taking pictures look for a cheap nikon/canon film body from the 90s, even better if you find it with a lens you might want like a 35 or 50mm prime as a package deal
